Pros

Used to be small enough you knew everyone and they knew you and that made it a special place. Now it's borderline corporate. Brooks used to have a laid back environment but that's changed as well. Hydration Wednesdays were a fun and quirky benefit; that's gone too. If you run you can disappear for hours at a time during the day. Depends on your running ability and the department.

Cons

Lacks true leadership. Way too many corporate middle managers go from zero-to-hero when they come to Brooks from the big companies. Management claims to have a plan but the execution is either ill planned or just non-existent. Like many other reviews here, I've also witnessed and experienced the smile to your face and stab you in the back mentality. There's way too much politics here for such a simple business. This place did a number on my career. Came in with a solid foundation and good trajectory but was slowed down, suffocated, demoralized and disrespected. All while taking a pay cut to work for this "cool, run happy" company which turned out to be a bait and switch.

Pros

Extremely social company. Everyone knows each other and there is a familial sense to the work culture. Lots of free/heavily discounted product. Liberal expense accounts. They want the brand to look good and for the employees to be happy. Luckily very few employees abuse this system so it remains flexible. Tons of opportunities to travel around the country. Brooks sponsors hundreds if not thousands of runs (5k, 10k, half marathon, marathon) and likes employees to represent the company at these events. All expenses paid. Brand new corporate headquarters.

Cons

For a company that is posting its best years every recorded the pay for the base level employee (requiring a college degree and experience) salary is almost unlivable. At that the base level employees are not treated with much respect. Salary does not improve much as you go up the ladder until you reach top tier upper management. In many cases, within the first 2 years of employment you are likely to be promoted or cemented in that position until you resign. It depends largely upon your goals are and what the next level up thinks of you (personally).

Pros

Good First Job and if you are a running fanatic

Cons

Company more closely resembles a High School. Manipulation, Gossip and the Cool kids (i.e. the cool depts.) maneuvers are regularly practiced and rewarded. There are several cases I’ve seen of employees being promised a promotion, pay increase or move to a new role only to be told a yr. Later the job or the merit increase can’t happen to the extent we spoke to. But keep doing what you are doing and we will revisit next yr. It is a company with very little upward mobility dependent on the department you work in Most of these negatives are practiced by Sr. managers and executives. Brooks has hired numerous "leaders" that came from big companies where they either were let go or were not top producers. Why leave a multibillion $ company to work at $500m Org.? Brooks revives their careers and allows them to fracture the existing culture with big ideas from the past that are not relevant to the current or near future of the brand. Sadly, it's the individual contributors, the 10 yr. vet/lifer that hasn't seen a promotion, and the quiet high-performer who just wants to do an excellent job and doesn't boast to everyone about his own accomplishments. Brooks is becoming a ‘Big Boy” culture just like most companies. They have had layoffs just like everyone else. So if if you going to work for a company that acta like most others, then you should go work at Big Company where there are upward mobility options and they will pay you more for your commitment and the risks.
