Brown University reviews

Quite frankly, as a former long term employee of Brown I would strongly advise against employment here much to the contrary of what most people think. There is very little support for employees once you are an actual employee. Managers rule here, and employees word carries very little weight. The University and Med School side operate on very different planes and both are quite political and are hesitant to work together when a situation arises. Everything is all smoke and mirrors - for good PR - that's all.

RIIPL is a research group within Brown run by Professor Justine Hastings. I had been in Ivy league research labs for 5 years by the time I joined. It was hands down the most distressing and awful experience of my life. The lab is run like a personal fiefdom where staff are laborers. The management bully the staff and there were several cases of people being transferred out. Crying in meetings is frequent. Bullying is really the only word for it. A lawsuit is imminent I believe. To be avoided. The university HR department is sorely lacking. They will not try to help you, and they will not ask if you are happy. Its a shambles. They are powerless to do anything to Professors as they have tenure.
