Pros
My title is fairly unique at Businessolver, so anyone who is at the company currently will have a pretty good idea who is writing this post.
From the top, I have to say that my experience and opportunities at BSC have far exceeded my expectations. I started here 10 months ago as an addition to the project management team; and was just happy to be affiliated with a company that appreciated my potential and appreciated me as an individual. I also have to say that I've never worked so hard -- or been willing to work so hard -- ever before in my 40-year career. And I love it.
My involvement in employee benefits sales/enrollment/admin started in1995. In that time, I've never seen an benefits admin company that is so committed to its product, service, and customers as BSC is.
BSC management expects its staff to work hard. Realizing that fact, they also give us some nice perks (weekly free lunch, weekly afternoon appetizer time, bi-weekly breakfast) and opportunities to have fun and "blow off steam" in positive ways. This is 100% unlike the other 4 corporations I've worked for in my career.
While I've only had experience reporting to one executive at BSC, from that experience, I can say that I've never felt greater support or empowerment from management anywhere else. I think that's true companywide, as well.
This company is growing fast -- especially in the past few years. They work hard to provide meaningful on-boarding training; with specific technical training as well. Company culture is one thing that tends to get diluted (or even lost all together) as a company gets bigger. But BSC strives to maintain the value of the company's culture by making it part of the on-boarding training.
Management as BSC is introspective and open to ideas and not locked into doing something just because "it's the way we've always done it." We are making changes all the time to make sure we are providing the best levels of service and product to our clients -- and that our internal processes are as meaningful and efficient as possible, too.
I don't have any "cons" about working at Businessolver . . . just a bit of insight to share with potential job seekers:
To succeed at Businessolver, you need to be a seeker; meaning if you have tasks or responsibilities you are unsure about . . . go ask questions! Everyone -- yes, even managers -- are working hard here and may not always be able to come around and ask how you are doing. BUT you can always go to them or to your peers. Also, a high percentage of the staff has been hired just in the last couple years, so we know what new hires go through and are always willing to answer questions.
This next bit of advice is a bit dicier -- and understand that it's strictly the impression of a 40-year career person. For me, I feel that a job at BSC is more meaningful and easier to acclimate to if it's not the very first job you've ever had. It IS hard work, and if I hadn't had the perspective of prior work experience, I may not have had the confidence and understanding of what was needed to persevere.
I think one great answer to this is BSC's professional development program (PDP). PDP provides controlled exposure to multiple departments/
Cons
From my experience at BSC, I truly don't believe there is anything that could be considered a true "con" about working here. In my career, I've worked for the government, large and small public and private corporations; and I've been self-employed. All work settings have their plusses and minuses. The plusses at Businessolver far and away exceed any minuses.
