      CA offers long term employment, but don't expect to get ahead.

      Pros

      Relatively stable work place - there are employees that have been here for over 25 years. Good benefits including onsite cafeteria, laundry and health center. Great on site day care.

      Cons

      The old CA culture still prevails in middle management layers. At least in Marketing, the departments are territorial, poorly coordinated, not accountable to each other and inefficient. There is too much bureaucracy, processes are rarely documented and change frequently. Career paths are unclear and the recent realignment of job titles designed to rectify this effectively demoted hundreds of employees. Promotions are rarely based on merit and more on whom you know.

      Pros

      The interaction between groups at CA has been pretty good. Whenever I needed to locate someone with expertise in an area, it was always fairly easy to do so and led to mostly headache-free interactions. They are very flexible with work schedules, time off, and working from home.

      Cons

      There is very little leadership shown in the engineering management at CA. The company buys software to expand its portfolio, generating almost none through home-grown development. The employees of the acquired companies all eventually leave and the software is left to flounder until it dies out. Rinse and repeat. There is an ever-present fear of layoffs, though less so than a few years ago. Most of the engineering jobs were shipped to India and China.
