Worst most arbitrary layoffs in the US

Nothing, a chance to lose your job for no reason and absolutely no explanation why.

Cons

This company will work you to death regardless of your role and then throw you on the scrap heap with the worst and most insulting reasons known to man. No reason was ever given for a layoff despite handing some of the largest and most significant projects that have anything to do with CA.com. Pure ignorance from director level employees and layoffs based on no reasons ever revealed or explained. Severance is an insult and you should never consider wasting any moment of your life working for this hack shop of losers and liars. They will work you to death and then throw you on the trash heap. STAY AWAY.

Great people, interesting projects, but too much "restructuring"

Pros

You get to work with smart and experienced people. There's a lot of respect and your ideas are usually valued. Department level management values your input. CA has been lately getting into modern/emerging technologies which provides the chance to work on many different and interesting projects. Severance package is pretty good if you've been there a while.

Cons

If you enjoy being told by executive management that the employees are valued and later you get laid off this might be the place for you. There's too much restructuring going on. I worked on a project that executive management called crucial to the company success yet it was totally eliminated not too long later. If you're in the wrong project at the wrong time be prepared. Regardless of how experienced and how well you perform, it's not considered when it comes time to "restructure".

Pros

Many talented professionals, including some long term employees. Broad portfolio targeting enterprise software segments for IT Operations Mgmt (ITOM). Current CEO seems to have a good vision, and recent acquisition of Rally was a smart move.

Cons

Chronically changing strategies, with annual purges (RIF), and shuffling of management. Quite a bit of cronyism. Difficult to change the entrenched culture, especially in Engineering. String of previous acquisitions that were ill conceived and very poorly executed. Many solid products and technologies get put into sunset mode too quickly, and core technologies and expertise aren't harvested.
