Pros

Great opportunities to be involved in new trends in the software industry. Great potential for lateral movement. Benefits are great and Islandia offers a lot whithout having to leave the building.

Cons

Fear of constant RIFs. Survival is less about how good you are but who you know and how relevant you are. Things go south fast. You can be the darling of the company one quarter and on the chopping block the next. Lots of kneejerk reactions from management who can't stay the course on many emerging products. They talk a mean game about growth, but do not have the stomach to see it through.

Cons

Layoffs happen annually at the end of every FY; if you have been an employee for a lengthy amount of time - 8+ years - you are not viewed as valuable, creative or "fresh." The aging workforce is a key target - your knowledge and experience means nothing - they will claim you are being let go due to geographic location and/or "skills." Senior leadership does not care about the people or culture - they are in it for themselves, the board and large shareholders. Its a shame as CA used to be a really great place to work!

Poorly run company. Keeps resorting to layoffs to solve problems without understanding the damage this causes. My manager was very concerned about how low the employee surveys were and asked me to help him to improve team morale, then laid me off this morning.
