Pros

Good 401k benefits, nice location in Downtown Chicago, new building.... If you are an actuary going for your Fellowship, CNA has a good student program. Get your Fellowship while working at CNA and quit the next day....

Cons

The CEO (Dino) is completely destroying this company. He has created a culture of fear at every level and in every department. The company has no vision. The management says they have a vision but their actions don't align with their words. The employee survey conducted last Fall highlighted challenges faced by employees regarding the toxicity of the environment and lack of direction but the upper management refused to take any responsibility. It appears that the people around the CEO are afraid to give him bad news and to demand change. Many senior leaders are at a point where they are simply killing their time and waiting for the right moment to take their golden parachutes and get out. Because of that, there is no strategic investment in people, technology, data, analytics, etc. People who are able to leave are leaving fast.

Pros

Some departments have a liberal work from home policy. Not much else positive to speak of.

Cons

I would echo much of the negative commentary found on this site, however I found "A Wonderful Company Gone Bad" (11/9/19) "Used to be a great place to work, very toxic since 2018" (10/15/19), and "Low Performers Paradise" (8/8/2019) to be very much in line with my own experience. Prior to 2018 this was a nice place to work, but has been overrun by "career politicians" since that time. Many of those in management who had any integrity have been run out, and those that remain cannot be trusted and/or lack accountability. This has made the environment very toxic and morale is terrible among the rank and file. Sadly this is a company without much of an identity. Every 3-4 years new management is brought in to "fix things" which leads to yet another round of mass layoffs. The result is a rudderless ship in a near constant state of realignment and restructuring. This current iteration is an absolutely dysfunctional and chaotic mess. Management is either completely disengaged or so preoccupied with their politicking that they have no idea how to properly evaluate their talent. Poor performers are allowed to linger on provided they keep a low profile, while the doers and achievers become frustrated by the current culture and get driven to the exits. This company is to be avoided.
