Pros

I have been in corporate insurance for close to 9 years. This is by far the best place I have worked. Supportive management that trusts you to work and empower you to be successful.

Cons

Online quoting system is a little out of date and crashes a lot. It will be upgraded in the next 2 years but until then, it can be hard to release a quote.

Pros

Great 401k match, above competitors Opportunities to move around the company.

Cons

There is a new corporate controller as of 2020 in Finance. Unfortunately, this Controller is so focused on process improvement and not focused on people, and employees have notified. I have never met someone so micromanaging before. I no longer felt like I could lead my projects and my team. Management is also not forth-coming.

Pros

* CNA was a great place to grow. For someone completely new to the industry, I was able to pick things up relatively fast and learn a variety of different fields within CNA. * Depending on the group you're in, people are incredibly friendly and hospitable. I made a lot of friends of all different backgrounds! :) * Everyone chips in to help out despite heavy workload. * Great benefits for the most part. Hard to top. 4 wks off the bat is rare to find in this city. * My manager was very helpful and really encouraged professional development. Not sure if it's the norm but I really enjoyed having someone who encouraged me to think outside the box. * When the office was open, there was a lot of collaboration and "focus rooms" for times when people just need to step out to take a breather. * Diverse employee resource groups. I loved being in a few and meeting new people across departments. * People are willing to adapt and consider new ideas (at least in my department) even if they can get messy!

Cons

- The health insurance (ironically) is not that great. It had a high deductible that I never managed to reach even by year end despite my higher than average doctor visits. This is more so a criticism on UnitedHealthcare if anything. - One big con is that CNA is incredibly cut throat when it comes to layoffs. Once they laid off staff counsel departments during the holiday season - ouch. Then they had a few layoffs during this pandemic - to people who have been with CNA for over a decade or more! It was heartless especially since our company wasn't affected by COVID. For a company that prides itself on inclusion and diversity, it was a bad look to layoff positions that were filled by minorities. - This is a common problem with most companies I've worked with: lack of communication between departments hinders processes to the point of wanting to pull your hair out. There needs to be more cross training across departments. - The godawful end of year ratings are so skewed. I can't blame my supervisor because I know that internally it's a struggle to get more than one person ranked at "Exceeds Expectations" by HR. I busted my butt and never got that accolade. There wasn't a real answer as to why I never did.
