Pros

Above average compensation and great effort to differentiate and reward employee performance. Some IT managers are keen to grow their employees and there's lots of opportunities coming up as IT turns to a managed services model of delivery.

Cons

Work culture was rather conservative and uptight, which was to be expected from an insurance company. Most people seemed to want to work there for the pay and get out of there whenever possible at the end of the day. So do not expect a friendly and cordial community with that "we're in it together" sort of attitude. More like a place where people would want to retire with a great pay and little change throughout the years. There's always plenty of opportunities as the organization is changing but with frequent layoffs, teams got smaller and tasks were consolidated to fewer people. Great potential if you are willing to work extra but it might be hard to grow within the same position unless the managers above you leave the company.

Pros

Lots of smart people, good salary and benefits, work life offered, previously had good developmental opportunities

Cons

Aggressive, back stabbing competition due to performance/bonus structure and layoffs, constant fear of being next to go. Lots of variability between departments, some really slack and you can make a long term career while others work nonstop and burnout. Poor management. Current HR team is a joke, lots of promotions in their ranks to VP but its favoritism not results and they do not get feedback/retention/succession/engagement results they should. They need to work with managers more and better.

Pros

The pay can be higher than at other companies. The benefits are average to slightly above average. The company supports continuing education.

Cons

If one gets in the wrong department, the work load can be very onerous. Work life balance can be non-existent. Senior management is trying to bring the company to the next level but the morale is suffering greatly because of it.
