Pros

Relaxed dress code, relaxed atmosphere

Cons

Low pay and very limited career opportunity. The internal training seems to be non-existent, which was a big selling point in my interview process. The issue is COCC is such a small company that trying to learn more or advance your career is near impossible.

We are aware that this is one of several reviews from the same former employee posting on multiple sources who unfortunately was one of the few who did not have a good experience here at COCC. While we always attempt to hire candidates who fit our culture, there is sometimes a disconnect. However, we believe that our eight consecutive years as a Top Workplace in Connecticut has not happened by accident, and our continued efforts to engage with our employees and respond to their feedback have been worthwhile. We continue to receive recognition from our employees, our clients, and the industry overall because of our highly engaged workforce that truly does make COCC a great place to work!

Pros

Fun atmosphere, cool cafe, free parking, and gym on site

Cons

Very weak management, most departments run on rote. If you're looking for professional training and a place to grow, this isn't it. Took the job right out of school and thought it would be a long term option, but it is not that type of place. COCC provides a lot of meaningless perks, occasional free food, free beverages, gift cards once in awhile. However, if you're serious about building a career COCC won't be an option

We love that we have a fun atmosphere with great perks and an onsite gym! But COCC also has a strong focus on career development, including for new leaders and leaders who are early in the process. Our Management & Leadership Development program, presented by our Executive team and HR staff; professional, free, onsite, one-on-one leadership coaching services; interactive management roundtables every month; and an extensive management-focused, just-in-time library of eLearning modules are part of our winning formula for developing a fantastic management team. For those who are growing into a leadership role, these opportunities have truly been game-changers. Our employees definitely are serious about building their careers, and we’re serious about finding ways to help them: whether it means supporting these new leaders, or even by helping employees make a lateral move, take on a new project, or learn a new skill.

Pros

Free food at times and a casual dress code

Cons

Very strange place to work. It's not uncommon to have more experience than your current manager, who usually has the job for reasons other than merit. Favoritism seems to be the over-riding factor in employment at COCC unfortunately. The other down side is there is little or no upward mobility, so there is almost no opportunity to carve out a career for yourself. Human resources is also an issue. The department operates more as a bully than to facilitate employee issues. Surveys are very common at COCC and you will be expected to provide glowing responses or else. Overall very disappointmented I accepted the job
