Pros

- Hybrid schedule - 3 days in office/2 days remote - Good collaboration within your own department. You will most likely love working with employees on your level - Free drinks, office parties, food trucks, etc.) - Benefits/PTO - Monthly 10-minute chair massages - quarterly mental health day

Cons

- Lots of Nepotism - Micromanaged - Poor Management: Manipulative and toxic - Lack of effective leadership, big picture, and communication skills - Pay is not enough for the amount/quality of work they expect - unrealistic expectations set by management With the way things have been getting run lately I wouldn’t be surprised to see an increase of employees leaving. This company has been a constant let down, management is not to be trusted. They make employees question their self worth by playing favorites, micromanaging and providing empty praises. I got so much whiplash from one day being told “you’re doing amazing keep it up” to the next being “you’re not there yet” with no proper examples. Promotions are seldomly given to those who deserve them. If you’re dealing with harassment or disrespect, it is completely pointless to go to your manager, you should just report it directly to HR otherwise it will get slid under the rug and never properly addressed. This place is great for out of college students needing corporate experience. I wouldn’t recommend staying there long term if you’re looking for an employer that will properly recognize your worth and pay you fairly for it.

Troubling Company

Pros

Nice folks, gift cards at Christmas

Cons

COCC has an unwritten policy of hiring people right out of school, the less experience the better. This way your starting salary is very low and your chances to jump to another company are minimal since you don't have experience. It's alarming how few people over the age of 30 work here and if you do get in the door, your chances of advancement are slim and none. COCC is big playing favorites and they promote a college like atmosphere, someone a little older really doesn't fit in. Serious professionals with years of experience need to not apply, having a strong resume is a negative. Little or no guidance/training, low pay, and a reliance on the company is the formula. Of course once employees get some experience they jump ship immediately, it's a poorly kept secret in the industry about the high turnover at COCC. I would say they discriminate based on age, but that is very difficult to prove. However, at 5pm the parking lot looks more like a school getting out, rather than a work place done for the day

We are aware that this is one of several reviews from the same former employee posted on multiple sources who unfortunately was one of the few who did not have a good experience here at COCC. While we always attempt to hire candidates who fit our culture, there is sometimes a disconnect. However, we believe that our eight consecutive years as a Top Workplace in Connecticut has not happened by accident, and our continued efforts to engage with our employees and respond to their feedback have been worthwhile. We continue to receive recognition from our employees, our clients, and the industry overall because of our highly engaged workforce that truly does make COCC a great place to work!

Employees from a variety of ethnicities and minority populations are represented throughout our organization, including in leadership and management positions, and we continue to develop and promote our leadership team from within our employee ranks. That’s why more than 15% of our diverse workforce last year advanced their careers with us into new positions, including management and executive management.
