Work life balance/Benefits/Leadership

Pros

Benefits: CRDF Global offers a fantastic 403(b) plan, which includes great employer contributions. Medical benefits are also good and vacation is generous. The subject matter is interesting and the international flair fo the work is compelling.

Cons

Base pay is barely conducive for survival relative to the work performed, especially if you are a staff member with student loan payments. The benefits are good... but you can't pay rent and student loans with them. In addition, only lip-service paid to work/life balance. The cycle seems to be 1) staff works exceedingly hard to meet goals, expectations, and commitments - crushing themselves; 2) staff burns out and morale decreases; 3) Work stress contributes to personal or professional tragedy; 4) Leadership decides that work/life is a thing; 5) Nothing happens, the cycle repeats. Further, the organization is a victim of inconsistent, indecisive leadership. Decisions are made, changed, changed again, questions asked regarding why things were changed in the first place. Often, these decision are communicated poorly down the chain of command, which leaves subordinate staff paralyzed to commit to any given process, lest they are reprimanded for not making the right choices. Further, lower-level management often takes on the direct responsibilities of more senior leadership.

Pros

Listen, people at the operations level are amazing. They are hard workers and they love what they do or else they would be taking a higher paying job somewhere else. The interpersonal connections I made were the highlight of my workdays. The benefits are pretty good, not going to lie. I love the educational reimbursement program. I wish there was more emphasis on this aspect at an informal level.

Cons

CRDF has a huge executive management problem. The turnover is high because the company drives away its competent workers by stretching them thin rather than promoting them, investing in them, and encouraging them. When they see someone doing well, they break them. If management was more interested in supporting their workers and less interested in sucking them dry, this place might actually have a chance at keeping its employees for longer than a year or two. Unfortunately, upper management has created new positions for itself, I'm honestly not sure what they even do?? seems like they just like to pat themselves on the back for doing a very poopy job (won't let me say sh!T !!!)

Some good things and a lot of negative...

Pros

-Great coworkers/staff and people who are really dedicated to the mission -Good benefits -Some interesting projects -Opportunities for travel

Cons

-A lot of talk about "values" that don't seem to apply to everyone -A lot of talk about "opportunities for advancement" that never happen (or are dangled in front only to be taken away) -Endless stream of meetings where nothing ever gets done -Lack of guidance from leadership and then criticism for not doing something the "right way" -Limited accountability depending on which department you work in -Poor work life balance. There's a general expectation that people are on the clock 24/7 despite the lower-than-average salaries -Low morale in some departments
