Pros

store discount. decent cafeteria at the corporate office. vendors always leaving free product samples if you keep your mouth shut, ignore the inefficiencies, and strive for mediocrity then you'll go far.

Cons

way too political, no advancement unless you play the game, empty promises for raises and incentive awards, no processes and procedures, antiquated infrastructure and IT, departments all work in silos, duplication of efforts, poor communication, inconsistent HR policies, lack of written HR policies to refer to. huge parking issues (corporate office main building is short over 200 spaces if everyone shows up for work), no onsite gym (so much for better health!)

Pros

There aren't very many to think of. Starting pay for management WAS good, but they figured out how to correct that.

Cons

Adjusted pay Cut hours Outrageous Health Insurance costs Bad upper management Poor work conditions Run down stores Horrible customers Out of reach metrics Bad organizational skills Zero loss prevention. I was hired at a good rate under their "SMT" program and appreciated the starting pay. Once I finished the training I was put into an Assistant Manager position which was common for that program. After 7 months, a weekend off was stopped, mainly due to a bad manager that had excuses for everything. After the first year CVS decided to re-categorize their positions and you either became a SMIT, Operations Manager or Operations Supervisor. Who's dumb idea was that? The average customer already thinks nothing of an Assistant Manager to begin with, and now CVS further confused them with ridiculous new titles. And did I mention that it came with a pay cut? And their new full time status is now considered 30 hours instead of 40??? So a 10% pay cut just became a 30% pay cut. And the mid level insurance will run you about $300 every 2 weeks. So if you make $25 an hour and work 30 hours minus the insurance, you pre tax pay is now $900. Do the math on how little you actually make.

Pros

A decent opportunity with slightly above-average pay and solid benefits. Most of the people who work here are good people simply trying to support themselves and their family. During my time here, I learned a lot about perfecting customer service in a team setting. I also learned a good amount from an operations standpoint. CVS famously stopped selling cigarettes, which is great.

Cons

If you're career-driven, you simply cannot rely on management to support you, and many of them are not happy people themselves. In field management, there is a culture of everyone being too busy to help anyone else. if you will. At the store level, each branch has its own culture. I worked in one branch with a good, disciplined culture, and another with a highly toxic, negative, backwards culture. Expect to spend 35% of your time cashiering, and expect to work nights and weekends regularly as with any other retail role. I worked here for eight months before deciding to go elsewhere.
