HR is a joke

Pros

good benefits. That is all I have to say about this organization.

Cons

HR is a joke and will either never respond to your questions or if they do not do much to help. I had co workers that had issues with another co worker and went to HR about the issue. They were dismissive and claimed that their complaints didnt seem that bad. HR shouldnt have an opinion on it and look into the situation. In addition they did not provide a write up or verbal. They went straight to termination when I had a issue with the FSA vendor WageWorks.

Bad Leadership

Pros

Very good benefits. Depending on the department, you actually have very good leaders who will support the department through recruitment in order to find the right individual.

Cons

Most leadership are promoted for convenience with no prior background in the area of expertise. This makes it difficult for others to work without support. Stressful environment and lack of structure.

Pros

Mission, great hardworking co-workers, opportunity to help our wonderful clients

Cons

I am a leaders at CalOptima and I don't feel I can speak up in the organization. It's too bad the senior team doesn't have effective enough relationships with their leaders so disappointments and frustrations can be shared. Instead people resort to social media. Something needs to be done about the culture at CalOptima! We hope the Board will find out how bad it is and finally do something. They appear to believe the finely crafted messages the CEO and top attorney provide them. If they only knew the people hours that go into preparing communications for the Board so they don't know the truth. It causes enormous stress and completely unrealistic expectations by the legal team as Board document after document is revised and not even discussed openly with leaders that have to have their name on it. The COO and her attorney have a punitive approach to our employees. Throwing policies at people all day doesn't work! So sad since I have worked here for many years and it used to be a great place to work. Please, it is 2018 and other organizations "get it" and know you need to care about your employees. Please do something with the senior team!
