Good Mission but Lots of Growing Pains

Pros

Diverse and interesting set of projects. Great opportunities to get involved in the transportation industry. Working on solving global emissions.

Cons

Lack of structure and clearly-defined roles. Lots of new faces joining the company. Have to follow lots of orders from the state of California as they are the funder. Data analytics team was not well-organized.

Pros

- Really terrific mission with some truly dedicated and accomplished team members. - The organization is growing rapidly and will provide valuable learning experiences for younger staff and strong recognition for more advanced staff. - Warm and collegial atmosphere.

Cons

- CALSTART appears to be taking on work more rapidly than it can execute, resulting in heavy workloads. Time off was not great relative to how much work needs to be done. - Limited opportunities for advancement for low-mid level staff. Tendency to hire externally rather than promote internal candidates, with lots of rungs on the growth ladder that inhibit true development. - HR keeps changing policies and systems, which tend to be applied inconsistently and defensively.

Great mission to advance clean and new technology vehicles and very mission dedicated employees

Cons

CEO thinks he owns the non-profit and dismisses valid feedback from employees CEO keeps getting paid more while others are left behind despite their contributions Selective enforcement of company rules You'll hear when you did something the CEO didn't like, but don't wait for a compliment.
