Pros

Lots of good people (Although most have now left or are leaving)

Cons

Carbonite is actively encouraging employees to fake positive reviews on Glassdoor. Please beware of recent 5 star reviews. There is an internal campaign to entice current employees to post positive reviews in an effort to fix their bad image, rather than to fix the actual issues. If you look at the history of reviews, you can see a consistent trending average below 3/5, until recently, where reviews artificially spiked to bring the average up. This activity is extremely unethical. Carbonite has no future. They are in a dying industry that have a few cash cow products, which is the only reason Carbonite will avoid going out of business in the next couple of years. The company has no vision for the future. The previous CEO left after several failed attempts of acquiring smaller companies in order to create artificial growth. In addition to that, there are ongoing lawsuits alleging that the company misled shareholders over it's failed VM backup product. Leadership is weak. There is no direction and so much uncertainty. Recently there have been major changes within operations which caused a ton of very good talent to leave. Many people who had been with the company for almost a decade have left in the last few months. Those who haven't left are looking to leave. Friends and colleagues who have left are viewed as the lucky ones. Management is now plagued by unethical behavior, poor decision making, narcissism, and the inability or unwillingness to listen to employees. This has led to a very negative culture. People are depressed. Those without a network outside of Carbonite feel trapped. Turnover is insanely high for highly skilled engineering positions, and yet there has been no real effort to address it. Operations is suffering from the mass exodus of talent. There are entire environments that nobody knows how to manage anymore. I used to love working here. Less than a year ago, this was a great place to work, despite a lackluster company outlook. For numerous reasons, most relating to current management, almost all of the top talent has left.

Pros

Great location, free food, some reasonable people still left but not many

Cons

Collection of legacy irrelevant products led by a self-serving executive team who focuses only on driving the stock price up so they can get their "performance" RSUs. In the meanwhile, they suck the life out of the employees and their products. Now that the CEO is gone, he has been replaced by a taller version of the exact same selfish personality. Good luck but this company is going down!

Pros

Prime location, free food, and a cool office with Star Wars digs. Pay was above average. A select few awesome people still remain.

Cons

At times I felt like a rat in a bucket, desperate to escape with no way out. There's a serious culture problem at Carbonite that was suffocating over time. Widespread negativity and gossip were major issues. It got extremely demoralizing to be surrounded by constant trash talking. Senior staff was disorganized. Little structure was provided and those at the top often made questionable decisions, which brings me to my final point. Layoffs: they so shady. Entire departments were slashed with zero explanation. Covertly interviewing/hiring outside candidates to replace those who didn't fit the "Carbonite mold" was equally sketchy. Save your precious jello. This mold ain't worth it.
