No structure. No one is steering the ship. The leadership team puts tremendous pressure on the underlings to make critical decisions, and there is wishy-washiness at the top-- not to mention-- politics, in-fighting, and cliques that are only perpetuated by department leaders. Layoffs. People would just disappear into the abyss, Stranger Things style. Layoffs were sometimes driven by performance (fair enough), sometimes driven by politics (shady), and sometimes part of a bigger company shift. But the common denominator was that they were poorly executed, they were constant, and they all came without warning to the people who got axed, and the teams that they were on. There are two types of people who get ahead at Carbonite: those who perpetuate gossip, politics, and exclusion, and those who hang around long enough to deal with it and get promoted. As you can imagine, these makes for some pretty crummy interactions. If you can stomach the politics, or you just want a stopgap to live and work in the city, Carbonite should STILL not be your best option. But it's an option. That said, I certainly don't recommend building your career there.

Carbonite was once a place that I would recommend to work. I can't in good conscience do that anymore. The rate of appealing behavior that takes places to CYA is amazing. Management holds onto their power with a death grip and woe to anyone who doesn't change with the prevailing wind. If you don't tow the company line 100%, you have a target in your back. As other reviewers have posted the horrible way that people are laid off and immediately replaced should be embarrassing to the company. It makes new coworkers uncomfortable and the laid off employee just more people who won't recruit their friends to join the company. Employees are disposable.
