Pros
From time to time, it felt like we were doing something cool. Then we would change strategy and throw out all our learnings.
Cons
Carbonite has created a toxic environment that promotes slow development, bad practices, and horrible interpersonal behavior. Strategically, the company is incredibly reactive, slow, and uncertain. From a recruiting perspective, it wants to appear like a hip start-up with a cool Star Wars office, but this facade is decorative only. It has been said that "A" people hire "A+" people, and "B" people hire "C" people. At Carbonite, they hire "D" people. They have created a horrible culture that most people leave after less than 1 year. From a technology perspective, the engineering team is average at best. From a product perspective, the team is a late lagger on product thinking, design, and methodology. The products they have created fail frequently, and are far behind their competitors. No one at the company wants to use the products they sell. They try to make up for it with customer support and marketing, but that only gets you so far.
