Rotten work environment in the BI team

Pros

For a few months in the beginning of my employment I thought there were plenty of pros. Unfortunately they are so heavily outweighed by the cons that are not worth mentioning. Within a few months of joining you'll find it very easy to leave, no regrets.

Cons

Efforts are not judged on merit. If you kiss up to the right people you'll do well even with mediocre performance. The most capable, loyal and skilled people are exploited until they get really sick of it and leave. The least marketable stay the longest - BI only. I don't believe other departments had this issue, at least while I was there, but might be wrong. Some roles never stay filled for long and talking to former colleagues there, nothing seems to have changed. Rotten shady 'culture' is encouraged directly from the top. Anyone, on any team. who's been there for more than a year will tell you that history repeats over and over in this department. Same management, same self serving actions, same bad choices, same outcomes.

Poor Management

Pros

if your manager agrees there is great opportunity to WFH. They also had nice perks like gym discount, free snacks and drinks, breakfast on monday, etc. The company also just moved to a new office which was very bright and clean; however, kind of overkill/childish/cheesey with the Star Wars theme.

Cons

Poor management. All of the managers are under experienced and way too young. They promote too quickly with lack of experience and background. There is also a sense of urgency and chaos - maybe because the products are weak or the managers don't know how to handle a team. Either way it is way too stressful of a work environment for no return. The overall failure of Carbonite can be pin pointed down to poor and inexperienced management. Lastly, the turnaround rate is insane. People are there one day, gone the next. I think I can count maybe 10 people who have been there for over a year. Doesn't help boost company morale knowing that either people are being let go by the dozens or not lasting more than four/five months in a role. Longevity is key to a company's success and worth. Sadly, the last con of this company is the office politics, gossip and drama. It starts on day one. This is to be expected with any company but at Carbonite this the worst I've ever seen it. I think a large part can be attributed to the lack of experience, professionalism and maturity amongst the employees and management.

Pros

free breakfasts on monday, lunch on Friday (if there is enough food)

Cons

Very Acidic work environment, poor and inexperienced management, no follow through on promises for employee development, employees getting fired with little to no notice and no severance or exit packages, (over the phone no less) and no discussion with existing employees about what they could do to not get fired. Management does not clearly explain when issues need to be corrected or if an issue has become a problem. overall they treat you as dispensable because to them you are. after leaving Carbonite I have been happier than i have in years, even without a new job to go too. if I could give it a Negative star rating I would have.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us feedback. I appreciate your view point here and know how stressful and difficult it is to separate from an employer. I am very disappointed that your experience wasn’t more inline with what we typically see with our staff. Feedback and supporting our employees continuous improvement is the underlying foundation that Customer Care is built on. Your advice to not look at employees as a means to an end is not only noted, it’s a core part of our leadership strategy. We do our best to put the right people in the right roles and provide the supporting structure to help them be successful. Without our employees, we would absolutely fail and for that reason and the fact that it is just the right thing to do, we value our employees and build our business around them. I am regretful that this did not come across to you in your time here. If you would like to discuss this, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or anyone on our sr. management team.
