Pros

Friendly, collaborative colleagues who care about the mission. Solid benefits package for a nonprofit organization. Work/life balance for a remote role was great; I even took time to visit the headquarters in downtown Portland to actually meet face to face with my manager and director (and others). This was on my own dime because I carried a sense of care for knowing my fellow employees. Pay is decent but could be more competitive given the responsibilities and industry standards

Cons

My layoff, which confirmed was not at all due to my performance but other organizational issues, was handled in a deeply unprofessional and contradictory manner. On a Thursday afternoon, I received a formal raise letter from HR. Less than two hours later, I was invited to a meeting where I was informed that my position was being eliminated. There was no accountability or explanation for this conflicting communication. This reflects a broader issue: poor internal coordination between HR, leadership, and finance. The experience was disorienting, impersonal, and undermines the organization's values. Throughout my time at CareOregon, there was a persistent lack of direction and proactive planning. Much of the work environment involved reacting to problems rather than thoughtfully anticipating and addressing them. My role was created to help improve investment operations, increase efficiency, and support strategic clarity—which I did. Unfortunately, the organization continues to operate reactively, with little willingness to embrace lasting structural improvements.

Pros

benefits, coworkers, expressed mission of company

Cons

terribly managed. too many managers who are incredibly overpaid, lack abilities, experience to do their jobs. It's unbelievable how ineffective this company is. The nepotism is unbelievable. Friends hiring friends to do jobs they aren't qualified for. No performance reviews, or checks and balances. People just doing whatever they want, while the plan members get crappy health care. I'm a progressive but this company proves conservatives points about government mismanagement of money and waste of tax dollars. The employees get great benefits while Medicaid and Medicare members get the worst healthcare assistance in the universe. It's unreal. I wouldn't believe it if I didn't experience it myself. High turnover. And no accountability on the part of management.

Pros

company mission, benefits, 401k contributions, LGTBQIA+ friendly

Cons

large nonprofit that still operates as a small nonprofit. Work culture relies on people going above and beyond without the additional pay/compensation.
