Pros

Universal transit pass provided to all employees. Very flexible work arrangements. Large enough to get lost in the mix. Decent overall compensation package (aka low salaries but other benefits are intended to make up for that). Great location in downtown Portland.

Cons

Avenues for growth in this company are severely limited. Cost of living adjustments are not keeping pace with actual changes in cost of living here in Portland. Methods for employee engagement are poorly thought out and end up feeling coerced and disingenuous. HR is often nonresponsive or slow to respond to employee requests. In the past, job descriptions were made up by employees who previously occupied positions and have been grandfathered into the general repository of JDs; what you have now is a mix of nonsense with clearly delineated job functions. Peoples titles, salaries, and supposed functions do not reflect the work they are actually doing. It's a complete mess and getting worse. Planning to jump ship as soon as I can.

Pros

This is a company that cares about the members that it serves, is innovative in its solutions while conscious of the rising cost of healthcare.

Cons

Work experience varies by manager of department. One department had an incredible manager who led with vision and inspiration while the current manager is incompetent, insecure and micromanages. There is little opportunity for advancement and preferential treatment for few. Jobs have been created for some individuals while opportunities to develop skills and advance are denied to most others. Outside hires are preferred to promotion from within by those who actually have done the work and developed the systems to do so.
