      EIS is a horrible place to work, but the rest of the hospital is top notch

      Pros

      Bloated budgets, great benefits, resources galore.

      Cons

      Incompetent management, strong egos that care more about owning fiefdoms than providing service. Managers have no idea how to hire quality staff. 20 years behind the HR IT management curve. Hoard of IT managers with computer science PhD's that are completely devoid of soft skills.

      Pros

      Some very smart people to work with in EIS who get things done despite of management. Large budget (if you're in the right groups) and can be sent to conferences. Cedars is a great place to work if you just want to skate by, doing the minimum necessary to pull in a salary. You will not be fired as long as you continue to "meet expectations".

      Cons

      No personal career growth. When I first started at Cedars, I was very impressed with all the folks that had been working there for 10+ years. i thought it would be a place that I could be a lifer at. Then I realized that those folks were still doing the same thing for their entire career at Cedars. Promotions based on tenure instead of ability. Promotions to a management role from existing employees is rare, it seems that they would rather hire from outside to fill these positions. CTO has been with Cedars his entire career and is out of touch with today's way to run an IT department. A lot of talent leaving due to frustration.
