Pros

Cengage has values that are excellent and a history of putting them into practice, including respect and doing what's right for employees and customers. Team dynamics are very positive and the product is also worthwhile. I was well motivated by both to do my best work.

Cons

Cengage has recently (summer of 2023) committed to an aggressive cost-cutting campaign in order to improve its profit margin from excellent to amazing. This focus on profit margin has begun to undermine the company's social values.

Thank you for leaving a review. The goal of recent changes within our business is to improve efficiency by implementing simpler, more standardized, and efficient methods to serve our customers. This transformation is necessary to sustain and accelerate growth in an increasingly competitive and rapidly evolving education and workforce market. Although we have had to make difficult decisions, we truly value our employees and their contributions. I believe that this evolution in the way we work will eliminate many of the complexities and challenges our business faces, and ultimately strengthen our business overall. Best, Michael Hansen, CEO

Pros

* Competitive salaries * Good benefits * Flexible hours

Cons

* Terrible product that's hated by every kid that's forced to use it * Horribly rotting tech infrastructure * 90% of your coworkers are in India or Ukraine * Company seems to exist only to grab as much cash from the education sector as possible while providing the minimum possible product * Because of COVID, everyone switches to remote learning, and somehow this *hurts* the company???

I appreciate you sharing this feedback about your experience, and am glad to hear that our salaries, benefits, and flexible work were positives for you. We are committed to making education more accessible for people and, in light of that, it is unsettling to hear about your experience. All of our business decisions are driven by our mission to put the needs of learners first. We have evolved from a print publisher to a company that has created some of the most highly-rated digital teaching and learning solutions, including Cengage Unlimited, which has helped save students more than $330M on course materials. I’m proud of these accomplishments and believe students and faculty recognize our increased focus on affordability, but I also appreciate your candor and realize we have opportunities to improve. Regarding tech infrastructure, we are actively addressing this issue through a significant systems transformation effort, which will dramatically improve systems for our employees and, ultimately, improve the experience for learners. I wish you the best in your next endeavor. Kermit Cook, COO and interim executive leadership for Technology
