Pros

Overall the benefits are still good but this new CEO is slowly taking away our benefits. We used to have United Healthcare (very good health insurance) but CNP recently decided to switch to BCBS. I had BCBS at a previous company and BCBS is a terrible insurance provider, but as of now the benefit coverage is about the same as before. Work life balance is ok.

Cons

Under this new leadership, the CEO is chipping away our benefits to cut costs. Instead of choosing to trim a little off the top of their own multi million dollar salaries and bonuses, leadership has decided that higher insurance premiums would be better for us the little people to take on and I predict they will soon go after our pension and 401k’s. This CEO doesn’t care about anyone but himself (he made comments saying turnover is really good and doesn’t mind people leaving) and I am sure he is trying to position the company to sell it so he can make a fat 200million dollar pay out. He took away almost all of our sick time and then decided to give us free barbecue tickets as if that is equal, yeah I can’t make this stuff up. Pay- Pay increase are like 3% on average, inflation is like 4-7% or more each year so yeah, are pay increases don’t even cover inflation.

Going backwards for the rank and file

Pros

For the time being, there is still health insurance, vacation, 401k...

Cons

Sick leave was reduced in the middle of a pandemic, adding insult to injury. Promotions have become very scarce or nonexistent (avoids increasing pay), except for senior leadership. Work-life balance options are getting cancelled. More cuts to benefits are coming.

Good old boys club

Pros

It is a good old boys club. If you know someone, you get all the benefits. For example, good assignments, good projects, good shifts, promotions, raises.

Cons

It is a good old boys club. If you are not part of the club, then you will be stuck at best. Otherwise, you can be shown the door to make room for a club member. If you wonder why all your hard work has not helped your career, while a coworker who has not pulled any weight gets promoted, now you know. After a while, people who tried to advance give up and just settle for the minimum. This culture will result in a mediocre work force.
