Great Disappointment

Pros

Charlie Health has done a fantastic job recruiting and hiring top talent. Not only are the people are CH brilliant, they are also reliable, kind, and resourceful colleagues. The pay is fair and benefits are okay.

Cons

The culture is predicated on fear and distrust. Top leaderships’s obsession with metrics at the individual employee-level and remote surveillance of productivity has increased over time. Documentation requirements borne out of leadership’s mistrust of its workforce has created inefficiencies in an already stretched thin workforce. The most disappointing aspect of working here is that the organization and its people are phenomenal. Leadership is it’s fatal flaw. When you fail to take care of staff in a human services organization, ultimately services delivered decrease in quality and that has become evident here.

Toxic from the top down

Pros

Ability to move up the ladder more quickly than other firms I’ve worked for.

Cons

Can’t speak for remote staff, but workplace culture for corporate employees leaves a lot to be desired. Asinine 4 day/week in-office policy, and most won’t leave until well past 6:30-7pm. This is truly one of the least diverse places I’ve worked for. The co-founders all attended elite boarding/private schools and come from immense wealth. This translates directly to people they hire; majority of the NY office is white and come from a wealthy background. Chief Clinical Officer acts unhinged in the office, and everyone ignores the weird behavior as she’s besties with the CEO. Although there are plenty of great people here, a lot depends on your team. Don’t be surprised if you have to deal with aggro type-a micromanagers on the regular. Gossip and passive aggressive behavior is the norm. Retention is a big issue, and the length of the interview process makes hiring replacements a nightmare. If your team loses people, expect to pick up A LOT of the slack. FYI for anyone applying — they will solicit references from random people you’ve worked with in the past. Make sure your list of LinkedIn connections is private.

Pros

-Decent Salary -At the time, there were wonderful co-workers who were passionate about helping others. - Starting out you feel like you are making a difference and helping others until you learn this is a tech company that does not have compassion for the community they are claiming to help.

Cons

Having been in the work force for 30+ years; I had no idea professional's would treat others so poorly on such a large scale. In full honestly, I waited a long period of time to write this review and I am still nervous about being specific in results of retaliation. There are many scary things that happened during my time at this company but the largest concern I would want a potential candidate to know about is how toxic and gossipy the culture here. I thought the poor reviews were coming from a growing culture that had a difficult time with change until I experienced it for myself and learned every poor review has been true. Outside of the unrealistic KPI's and required toxic positivity you need to know there is no safety if you are harassed. I was shocked as I reported an uncomfortable and unprofessional situation to the appropriate internal party to in turn be told I was the problem and was directly retaliated against from the person who was doing the harassing. Finally, being (literally) yelled at that I was the problem. Being scared to go into meetings isnt normal. Having "feedback" on how I needed to change in ways I have never been told in my childhood or adult life, after reporting an incident, isnt normal. Being questioned about my legal and reported disability isnt normal. Please go into this company cautious and hold strong to your self worth. No one, including this company, should make you feel like you need therapy because of your job.
