Pros

The majority of the people are great humans. Especially outside of sales leadership. The dogs are great, the office is in a cool location, the view is great.

Cons

They hired a CRO who is literally the Jordan Belfort of San Diego, minus the good business sense. He is super crass, not classy (literally and figuratively), he calls people names and has systematically gotten rid of all the female leaders on his team. The company went from being the coolest humans and an awesome mission to a flaming pile of bro culture and failure. How this guy gets away with anything is beyond me. They ask the employees to write positive reviews to deal with all the negative ones coming in. I overheard that turnover has been over 70%. yep, makes sense. They treat people like garbage, have no idea what they are doing and despite continued failure nothing changes. I have watched so many great people either leave or get forced out. They literally publicly flogged sales people in our meetings. Classy use to be great, the CEO use to be great. Now it is just a bro club.

Pros

Hard to say anything really great about Classy anymore :( used to be a great culture and high morale. Unfortunately that’s just not the case and it’s not the same company it used to be.

Cons

Classy was acquired by GoFundMe officially in May 2022, however, employees received the news back in January same year. All of the great, fun Classy perks were taken away. Now there aren’t any stand alone benefits that are any better than another standard corporate company. They don’t even have unlimited PTO for their sales team! So many senior leaders have stepped down and those positions have either not been filled or have been filled by unfit/poor candidates. GoFundMe laid off about 100 employees a month ago, so it’s clear that both they and Classy are cutting back to get ready for the recession. So many sales employees are on performance plans as a way to fire them for underperforming rather than offering them severance packages. Classy costs more than its competitors and has unrealistic sales quotas for their sellers. We’re in a recession selling to nonprofits with little to no budget… of course we can’t meet quota! It’s disappointing that they’re using metrics as a way to cut back rather than looking inward at the problem. If over half of your sales team isn’t hitting their metrics, don’t you think you might be the problem, not them?

Pros

Co workers are great. Management doesn’t have a clue as to what they are doing and are building a plane as they fly here. Several employees 10+ were let go simply because they didn’t balance books right. Employees were let go who hit quota and had no warning. You aren’t treated with respect here unless you are surpassing quota, even if you’ve hit quota before or are using PTO time you’ve earned, you will be forced out of here and told to sacrifice everything for a 10minute phone call where you are trying to force a nonprofit to look at Classy without discussing the price or anything about the product really. You will be told from management that you are a loser if you aren’t successful at this due to their archaic new management tactics which are pressuring reps.

Cons

Took away commissions. I signed 3 different compensation plans in less than a year here each time lowering my compensation.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I value and respect every suggestion for improvement on Glassdoor. Always know that you can reach me out to me directly to talk as well though (scot@classy.org). In response to your post: Our people are a core part of our social enterprise mission and something that I personally care very deeply about. I can tell you with the utmost sincerity that ever since our founding, we’ve strived to to do right by our people at every turn. We’re not perfect, we do make mistakes, but we have always kept our team’s well-being front of mind through all of the inevitable ups and downs of scaling a startup. As many later stage startups come to realize, it becomes necessary to be even more deliberate in your sales structuring to ensure the right balance between roles. As Classy has evolved, we too have had to make difficult decisions at times to ensure that we’re scaling in the right way. No decision is taken lightly though and all decisions are made so we can continue to provide as much value as possible to our nonprofit partners, now and into the future. Again, I want to thank you for sharing your thoughts here on Glassdoor. I realize it can’t be the case in every situation, but I genuinely do want every person to feel good about their time at Classy, regardless of the circumstance. If you would like to talk more, please don’t hesitate to reach out. - Scot
