Thank you for your review. We're sorry that you feel this way and hope that you raised concerns with your manager at the time. At Co-op, we recognise the very real challenges retail workers face, especially when it comes to shoplifting, abuse, and violence. That’s why we’ve been at the forefront of campaigning for stronger protections for retail colleagues. Our Safer Colleagues, Safer Communities campaign has been a driving force in pushing for change, and we’re proud that this work contributed to the government’s decision to introduce a standalone offence for assaulting a retail worker. This new law sends a clear message: abuse and violence against shopworkers will not be tolerated. We also continue to invest in colleague safety through enhanced security measures, body-worn cameras, and close collaboration with local police forces. While we know there’s more to do, we remain committed to creating a safer, more respectful environment for all our colleagues.

Pros

Coop colleagues in front line roles are amazing colleagues and most live and breathe our Ways of Being despite being in difficult roles.

Cons

Sadly Coop leadership in Head Office don't practice what they preach and specifically our own HR Leadership. We expect high standards from our colleagues and that should go both ways. Recently we have witnessed some appealing treatment towards a colleague. To say its affected our confidence and trust is an understatement. Whose next?

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. It’s clear you care deeply about our Ways of Being and the standards we set for ourselves and others. We’re sorry to hear that recent events have impacted your trust in leadership. We agree that expectations should apply consistently across all levels, and that our Colleague Code and commitments must be lived—not just launched. When colleagues feel those standards aren’t upheld, it’s important that concerns are heard and addressed. If you haven’t already, we’d encourage you to speak directly with a senior leader to discuss your concerns. We’re committed to creating an environment where colleagues feel safe to speak up and where leadership is held to the same standards we expect across the business.
