Pros

They offered good discounts for staff

Cons

Since taking over somerfields, there management are changing the coop into somerfields. Had £50 taken from my wages, 2months on a row and nobody could tell me where it went. Wages was always short and never got your money back, when you went on training days you never got paid. they only care about making money and thats all. All there adverts on tv about how they care is a joke. I worked there for six months and lost around £600 through incompatant mangement. When you ask for a number to sort your problems they tell you there is no deptment. Had a 8 hour contract but worked 38 hours a week but only allowed 8 hours a week holiday.

Pros

* working with decent group of people * ethical company image * Manchester location (if you like it)

Cons

* layers of bureaucracy - very little interaction between senior management and 'underlings' * using 80s technology * not an inspiring environment; so no one takes ownership of a problem

Pros

The pay as a general service assistant is fair and over-time is compensated at a higher rate. The training is comprehensive and makes it clear how to deal with issues such as under-age sales. The Co-operative Group has a strong commitment to fair trade. Store performance is communicated effectively to the staff on a weekly or monthly basis. Sufficient supervision to assist with organization of daily tasks. Good advertizing of internal positions.

Cons

Senior management rarely interacted with lower-level staff when they visited the store. No incentives for productivity or performance at the level of individual employees. General customer assistants may have to work any day, including weekends.
