Pros

Overall Dignity Health has good intentions. They have a really solid mission they try and adhere to, and the pay was fair and the benefits were as well. They had some really good programs in place and the people were always kind and helpful.

Cons

My issue is with the specific hospital I worked at. St Joes in Phoenix has a good reputation in the community and when I accepted a job there I was very excited to be a party of the legacy of the hospital. The problem is the current CEO. And quite frankly the entire Executive team. Upper management were trying to push too many initiatives down the throats of tired and overwhelmed staff. The negative environment the constant pressure created made it a hard place to be. Especially when you know that upper level leaders openly speak ill of the people who support them. The rumor mill was awful at the executive level especially and often times hospital staff lacked the basic infrastructure to do our jobs effectively. Like comprehensive phone lists for a start. How can you expect the teams to buy into your 5 year plan when you don’t even give them basic resources?

Lacking senior (SVP and above) leadership

Pros

The company has a really good mission...only if it could live it throughout all parts of the org. The founding principles are good.

Cons

The SVP and above management (especially in IT) is not current with the times and just does not have the skill to lead the org into the future. They make talent retention decisions not based on merit, but rather on who will tow their line and who do they need to please. As a result the best people are leaving in record numbers and the morale is tanking.

Layoffs and low morale

Pros

There are very few things after the merger.

Cons

They just had a very large layoff in IT. Layoffs since merger seem to be annual. The new SVPs got rid of long term dedicated and well respected employees. Whole departments were let go. It seems the Directors and above who got to keep their jobs are on a campaign on here about how great everything is. It is not great. People are scared more layoffs are coming. Our direction is as clear as a muddy pond. Morale is low as some people who know nothing and do less were retained.
