I did love this company.

Pros

Excellent benefits, good people as your peers, and a field that’s not going away any time soon, extremely down to earth CEO.

Cons

When I started at Crown I thought it was the best place in the world to work. It pains me to write this review now saying that it no longer is because I love our purpose and the potential for the business. Unfortunately the culture here has plummeted. A lot of people seem to be blaming this on our growth and the acquisition of other companies. I don’t think that is fair to the business we’ve acquired. The tower business (where I work) is what it’s always been, yet our culture has tanked too. If I had to guess I’d say that our problem is demand. The demand for our assets and services continues to grow, but because we’ve spent so much money investing in our future growth (small cells and fiber) we’ve failed to provide support to the teams that already existed. Everyone is stretched extremely thin and that has skyrocketed the tension amongst individual contributors. We’re all drowning in work and help doesn’t seem to be on the way. In addition to this the “fun” aspects of the job are disappearing. We no longer do the team building and all hands events that used to build our spirit. Not that those things would reduce the stress of our work; but I did think they were great motivators that connected IC’s to management and gave us purpose. I also think there is too much innovation for the sake of innovation right now. Departments like Real Estate are constantly being reshuffled despite the fact that things seemed to be working. If it’s not broken why fix it? During once recent shakeup several employees who were great at their jobs and well connected to their local markets got their jobs changed with zero consultation. I understand the need to constantly improve. But it doesn’t make sense to take people who were supporting their local districts and redirect their efforts to districts they don’t sit in. I fear we’re creating an a system that will be extremely distant for our landlords and make them feel like we’re just a call center that they have to beg for attention.

I appreciate the detailed review and suggestions. Thank you for taking the time to help us improve. You raise a number of great points in the advice you share. I'd love to be able to discuss them with you in greater detail and have a conversation on how we might address these in practice, as I feel you've got great insight. I know that it can feel scary moving from being anonymous to a person to person conversation, but it would really help us get better and I'm happy to keep the discussion confidential. If it's something you decide to do, you can find me on our intranet by searching my role title. Either way, please keep the constructive feedback coming - as it's folks like yourself that will help us drive transformation across the business. Thank you again.

In a serious cultural decline

Pros

Benefits, legacy coworkers and managers from before the Fiber division was created.

Cons

Most recently acquired managers are rude, arrogant. bullying types who would not know a B3 value if it bit them on the nose. Generally speaking, they do not treat other employees, vendors, or customers with respect and do not value anyone's opinions but their own. Highly unprofessional conduct that would never have been considered acceptable a few years ago. Men receive higher pay for equal work and are valued far more overall. Ageism and favoritism throughout, though there do seem to be efforts made to create cultural diversity. Business Support is widely perceived as utterly useless overall, however. Hierarchy office model is a barrier to the transparency, collaboration, and innovation executives claim to want. Employees want more flexibility to work from home, but the model is not embraced even though it would likely increase productivity by reducing the stress caused by the current cultural distractions, as well as reduce company expenditures on office space like the new HQ that is planned.

Thank you for sharing your views on working at Crown. We believe in creating a safe and inclusive work environment, where people can grow and succeed together. If you have concerns, I'd ask that you raise them with a senior leader. Alternatively, you can always use our AlertLine, anonymously if you prefer. DO NOT WORK HERE

Pros

Is this even a thing here?

Cons

Where to even begin? This company has gone downhill so fast. Every single new director position is being filled with outside Google employees. They've recently just laid off a good and hard working team of 15 people to afford these new Google people and started parading them around the office like the Macy's Thanksgiving parade. Talk about tone deaf and callous. This company rewards hard work and dedication with bonus cuts and lay offs! When you're no longer needed in your role, instead of being shifted to a new role, they just get rid of you. They don't treat employees like people, just numbers and figures in terms of how you're costing the company. They don't even spare a budget for paper cups and snacks! LOL what a joke! If you want to be treated as subhuman and a liability, by all means, apply. Your manager will be some wet behind the ears newbie who will need his hand held through every tough business decision. Live an hour away and need to work from home during a thunderstorm? TOUGH LUCK. We need everyone in the office to promote a nonexistent culture! Need help from HR to address sexual harassment? DON'T BOTHER. They'll sweep it all under the rug and pretend it didn't happen. Crown Castle is lucky it's not a publicly known company or it would have been rightfully torn to pieces in the media. What a terrible, unethical company.

Thank you for candidly sharing your views. It's always disappointing to read about a teammate describing a poor experience of our business. The vast majority of employees tell us they enjoy working here - we consistently score around 90% engagement in our survey. However, we want everyone to have a great experience at Crown, because we know that helps our business deliver for our customers. You've raised too many individual points for me to cover here, but there are a couple of things it's important to highlight. First, we are proud of our culture and our B3 values are woven into everything we do. As an example, our CEO focused a large part of our last Company Conversation on our Be Accountable value, as it's core to our success. Second, we do not tolerate harassment of any sort in our business, and encourage anyone who's seen or experienced anything to raise it with their manager, a senior leader, or report it via our Alert Line. Thank you again for reviewing our business. We're going to continue to make Crown an even better place to work. I hope you come on that journey with us and then when you write a future review, that you feel things have improved from your personal perspective.
