Don’t be fooled by the kool aid

Pros

On the surface, the network seems to have strong core values and a quasi dedication to serving students and families of color.

Cons

This is legitimately the worst “ school district” I have ever experienced. A lot of their gimmicks are meant to gain enrollments, but the lack of support for campuses is big. They’ll try to sell you, their core values, that they are inclusive, and do things to keep their students of color at a campus, but the reality is if you are a staff member of color, specifically at the campus level, there is nothing done to help you feel safe from being he daily discrimination. This Netwerk puts school directors in place with minimal experience, many times the school directors have only been in their previous positions for 1-3 years before they are promoted to a principal position. This place looks good on paper, but beware if you are really looking for a place to stay for the long term. Unless you were part of a founding group or have been in the net work for sometime, you’re not really welcome.

A toxic environment of gaslighting and fakeness

Pros

Most co-workers, ie. support staff, teachers and even some admin, truly care about well-being of both students/families and other staff members. There are some efforts to be more inclusive and equitable in their education efforts.

Cons

Admin, supervisors and upper management do not practice what they preach. When I advocated for my needs I was met with judgement and blame. The structure for feedback is supposed to create a "human to human" approach; however, all the results are shared openly with the entire network without any anonymity. You can imagine how toxic this can get, along with less accurate results. There is this surface level "we care about you and your needs" but in the end its only about numbers and bodies. I was gaslit time after time after expressing my thoughts and opinions about how I was being treated and how the system was as a whole.

Coaches to support beginner teachers.

Cons

They were unclear about the required number of hours to work - 9 hours per day, not including after school time. They provided several forms of false information.
