Pros

Affordable tuition , effective professors, clean

Cons

Restructuring using an outside consulting group has muted any input from staff. Accomplished staff with many performance awards have to reapply against outside applicants. Suspected age discrimination. No credit for past accomplishments. Using COVID as a cover to reduce course offerings especially the humanities and art. Looks like an outcome oriented restructuring that will leave a shell of a company rather than a citizen oriented college serving the diverse needs of Dallas County tax payers. Leadership is too heavy and getting much heavier by the day. Sad course.....

Pros

Flexibility. There used to me more but that’s what is left after years of poor management and bad communication.

Cons

It’s now run like a corporation that is trying to “rightsize” (aka squeeze everything it can from overworked faculty and staff until they’re burned out). Managers make promises and leave the college for different jobs before fulfilling what they promised. HR takes ages to respond to employees and gives inconsistent information when it does respond. Students are treated as though they’re all able to take a full course load and not work. Clubs are now difficult to start.

Pros

Faculty and students are awesome Contributing to your community through education

Cons

Staff were treated poorly and lied to by administration during the transition to Dallas College. Many were laid off ("not rehired") or demoted with pay cuts. Those left behind had to do more work for less pay. Know that if you are hired here, you will likely be making much less money than the person that you are replacing. This also true for new full-time faculty being hired to replace older faculty that have been forced out. New faculty do not receive 3 year contracts, only temporary 1-year contracts that may not be renewed the next year. The pay was always low, but it is lower than ever for new faculty and staff. In addition, the job stability is gone. Things are unlikely to improve due to projected enrollment decreases due to a decline in the numbers of traditional college age students.
