Pros

I heard the other day this company is still around and just had a name change. I haven’t been at Daniels Sharpsmart (Daniels Health) for quite some time. Hopefully this review is still relevant. The structure was very autocratic. Orders would be passed down from the top which made it easy to know what to focus on, which was great. There was a clear person in charge. Company was growing which was a plus.

Cons

I am so happy I left. It felt like a massive dark period for me under their old CEO. I see that founder has stepped back in, which hopefully made a big difference. But I am always going to wonder if the name changes here was for similar reasons to Malaysian Airlines name change, trying to shake off some of the bad blood. In my opinion there was a lot of bad blood with quite a few ex employees. I feel the handling of employees when there were issue like low budget numbers was horrible and ultimately led to the company losing a lot of its sales team.

Thank you for taking the time to give an account of your experiences. Some of the issues you have raised were very valid and I am sorry that this caused a negative experience for you during your time of employment. Dan Daniels, the founder and owner of the Daniels group, did take on the role of CEO for Daniels Health USA a few years ago; I personally feel that this has been a very positive step for Daniels company-wide in re-aligning with its values and renewing its focus on our North American growth. Our change of name two years ago, whilst naturally ushering in a 'new chapter' as change always does, was not intended to shake off the past. 'Sharpsmart' was a name that well defined our business for many years whilst we were predominantly focused on our reusable sharps containment systems, however in recent years we have dramatically diversified the products and services that we provide to the healthcare sector. Globally we recognized that the name 'Daniels Sharpsmart' was not an adequate reflection of the international healthcare-focused company that we had become. I thank you for your advice, it's been very well considered and we have put a lot of focus in the last two years into the connectedness of our management teams and national communications. We still have need and opportunity to refine, but I feel that we have come a long way on the road to change. I hope that your career post-Daniels has continued to thrive, thank you for your feedback. Pros

The work environment within Daniels is very rewarding and challenging. Daniels gives the opportunity to all of their staff members to truly take ownership of the business. They have a strong belief in empowering team members to make decisions in the work environment. This is one of the few companies that is rapidly growing and allows people to have an entrepreneurial spirit. The team and the culture is amazing.

Cons

Very fast changing environment. For sone individuals it might make it hard for them to adapt to the changes from time to time. Clear communication is key.

Thank you for your response, its wonderful to hear that after 10 years you are still invigorated by the work that you are doing! Daniels empowering and entrepreneurial culture is unique, you are correct that it's not always the perfect fit for everyone, but for those who thrive in a fast-paced and market-responsive environment - it's incredibly rewarding. We are absolutely committed to improving our communication channels within the business and creating forums where our teams can better collaborate and be informed about business direction. We still have a way to go, but I am excited by the initiatives currently in play that will dramatically improve our connectedness as a business. Thank you for your feedback, it was encouraging to read. Laura Wakelam Chief Marketing Officer

A draining and negative company

Pros

Company tries to maintain a good working environment. Daniels have a great social committee and a friendly 'people and culture team' (HR). CEO appears to be quite friendly. Office is located in the Loop which is easy to get to by the L.

Cons

Upper management is a nightmare to deal with. Layers of bureaucracy (despite the company saying there is none). The happy culture that HR team tries to promote seems to be quite fake. Some of the staff are quite friendly but they are quite young and don't interact that much with the older staff.

We are sorry for responding to this review so late; it was deserving of greater respect. We acknowledge that your experience with our company was not great, we are sorry that we weren't able to make it more rewarding. We believe that in the time that has passed, our company has evolved significantly to listen more to our staff, our customers and our core values to drive forward our mission. We are sorry that our upper management was such a struggle, we have instituted a support structure now that helps to compensate for the limited bandwidth of our leaders. Given the tenure and tenacity of our senior management today, I can say very confidently that our leaders believe in the potential and purpose of Daniels Health in the US healthcare market and are truly committed to seeing it succeed. We genuinely want to build a strong inter-generational culture and take your advice seriously in making more effort of integrating our younger and older teams to achieve success. Thank you for your advice and time served with Daniels.
