Pros

It pays the bills and qualifies you for standard health care benefits. Most positions don't require working any weekends.

Cons

Most of the negatives have been gone over in detail in other reviews. The only thing I will comment on is how out of touch the management is. The average hourly production team member is miserable yet HR and corporate level employees completely ignore us and write misleading feedback on how great the company is to work for. New hires learn within a couple months this is not a place that cares about the "little" people. With a lot of other local companies hiring now I only see the high turnover rate getting worse.

Absurdly run

Pros

There aren't many positives except that it is a job with relatively steady hours. The benefits and pay are okay for the area but on the low end for the type of work being done. Potentially making new friends is a plus however most of the current employees are miserable.

Cons

The excessive micromanagement of hourly employees gets annoying really fast. You are treated a lot like you are in high school, that being said certain people seem to need it. The current mandatory overtime has a 4:45 am start time for 1st shift which doesn't seem to suit anyone. Also this is not the kind of job you can do effectively while working overtime. Document Processors on the VA project have to work at standing workstations making repetitive motions which you can only do for a few hours at a time before wearing out. The few long term employees that remain have various physical ailments due to this. The pay is okay BUT the company is cheating the system a bit by classifying employees and the work they do into the lowest pay scale for VA contractors. Their competitor for the same contract pays more. Furthermore the piece rate system they use to determine your pay over the base wage is extremely flawed. This is supposedly the bread and butter of the company yet the VA work is too varied to be measured this way. As for the most serious problem the corporate HR and management both keep promising change for the better yet resort to their same old methods under new slogans. This is frustrating for everyone and probably why the employee morale is so low. The turnover rate is the highest I have ever seen.

Pros

Pay and benefits are decent for the area

Cons

A few years ago this was a decent company to work for but ever since it won a large contract with the VA it has been going downhill at a rapid pace. The work itself for the DP1 position is fairly easy to pickup especially if you have a good memory but it gets extremely boring after the first couple months. The work environment is poor. You are forced to stand 8 hours a day (soon to be 10) at a tiny desk, literally side by side with your coworkers, and write in an awkward position as fast as you can because keeping your job depends on it. In addition to being in constant pain from what I just described you have to deal the majority of coworkers behaving like they are still in high school. People talking behind each others backs, flirting, ranting, raving, you hear it all here. The management seems to be either incompetent or perhaps they just don't care. Nothing is planned, organized, or explained in a professional manner. The HR is even worse though. Their whole purpose is to run you around in circles until you give up on whatever issue you are having. The cooperate HR may be better but at the production facilities barely trained assistants are running the show. I'm not sure if the assistants even understand their obligation to confidentiality from what I have personally seen from their handling of information. To sum it up do NOT take a job here unless you have tried everywhere else.
