Pros

Good experience, lots of young professionals, lots of good training

Cons

There are lots of expectations that are difficult to meet. I felt pressured to bill for time that I did not feel was ethical. I took a personnel concern to HR regarding a manager and my complaint and name was shared with the manager, who confronted me about it. Things like this made the environment feel less than professional at times.

Pros

You get to experience diversity and learn about the human condition, which can be quite humbling and educational about mental illness. Good experience if you intend to go to grad school.

Cons

Nurses and staff are condescending and rude, often accusatory and defensive even when you're just asking questions and genuinely a curious person. I was questioned on many an occasion to the point that I felt discriminated based on my race and my age. They provide extraordinarily low wages also for people even graduates from university. Working for a nonprofit can be a satisfying experience but with benefits such as these, its no wonder the irony of experiencing poor mental health while working in mental health is a common thing - for Texas is the lowest in funding for mental health. Clients can also become aggressive and intense at times, so it can also be an unsafe job. I would not recommend working here due to the conditions of this facility - they do not care about your success as an individual - it is just about what you can do for them. If I could take my time working here back, I would. I have never felt so discriminated against in any job, just because I was among some of the younger people working there and the nurses and staff are much older and have this suspicious, untrusting nature to them. It feels hostile and passive aggressive- not a wholesome, kind positive environment you desire to thrive in . Utterly toxic! Stay away from this place if you respect yourself.
