I can’t state names unfortunately, so the best I can say is… if you find yourself interviewing with a male who talks a lot and drags explanations for a very long time… run. You will know who I’m referring to. I’ve only encountered this one person like this.
This person is super aggressive, could care less about your goals—only cares about the work and will solely only discuss the work in your 1:1s, will micromanage you to death and solely keep track of anything THEY deem as a hiccup while breezing by your achievements with a simple “Thanks.”
Anything they ding as a hiccup will get an extremely long drawn out speech that can be summarized into something like, “Let’s try to avoid xyz moving forward as it can cause xyz. Other than that, you’re doing great and I’ve been noticing xyz and appreciate what you’ve been doing, and xyz that you handled. Let’s talk about some of your goals and what we can work on accomplishing”.
Nuh uh. Instead you get this:
Example — you join a meeting at 12:01 instead of 12:00. You will get, “I noticed you joined a minute after the start time, let’s be sure to join at 12:00, do you have your notifications turned on??? Do you have xyz setup??? Do you want to share your screen so I can see your Teams settings??? Let’s make sure we’re not joining even 30 seconds past the start time and that we have our notifications and alarm clocks and bright flashing lights enabled on the screen to ensure we join at exactly the start time and not a minute late as every minute matters because anything can happen in just 10 seconds that can be extremely important especially for the client and every time you join 50 seconds late I’m noting it down to create a book for getting you fired. So be on time. Just want to make sure that is clear? Thanks. See you in the next meeting.” I wish I was exaggerating. But if you encounter this person, you will be able to put two and two together who this is.
You will regret joining, I wholeheartedly promise you. Not worth the pay. And if they say this is not the case, they are trying to cover themselves. Run. There are much, much better positions out there. I was warned by two people not to join because of their experiences, and decided to see my own experience. And I could not believe that I had the same experience as them. So I’m writing this long review to make sure you are fully aware and strongly reconsider for your own good.
You will be demanded to work longer hours to get through a workload, and when you say you have to log off, there will be times when they are aggressive about you wanting to log off, and they are judging you for not staying on longer and noting it down. Every thing you have planned OUTSIDE of work hours they want to know about, so that they can determine if it’s “acceptable” or if it’s not and want you to keep working. All of your PTO requests, they PRY into strongly wanting to know exactly what every PTO is for. They will lie and say it’s to help you incase HR ever flags, which is a complete joke. It’s for them to decide if THEY think your PTO should be approved, so they can decide to force you to work those days instead. Remember this. They do not value your work-life balance and mental health. You have been warned. Micromanagement hell.
Also, because some of your team will live on another coast, you will have to be accommodating with your hours. If you’re on the east coast, they will expect you to be able to work around another 3 hours after 5pm when the west coast would typically log off. So you’re working 8am-8pm. And sometimes even longer. No overtime pay. And you will be told to even knock some things out on the weekend to “get the work handled before your PTO.” Just run. They genuinely do not care about you.
Rather than simply updating your Teams status like a normal team where people can simply see when you’re away for lunch or head down busy, they want you to write a message in a teams channel EVERY TIME you take your lunch break and when you return. They will pretend like they do not see your Teams status as available/busy and will only refer to the demanded update messages in the Teams channel. So you can change your status to available when you return, and they will LIT-TER-ALLY message you, “Let me know when you’re back online.” Micromanagement and unnecessary egotistical bs at an all time high. And it’s all to tally up as much as they can to bring you down.
Again, listen to me, if you join a meeting at 12:01 instead of 12:00, you will be bashed and watched/tracked making sure you join at exactly the start of the meeting time. I am not kidding. That says enough about how they are going to treat you. You have been warned again.
They are overloaded with work, unorganized, and pile up your tasks. They expect quick turnarounds, back to back which will drive you insane. Everyone is scrambling. Things that should allot 3-5 days for a turnaround, they will drain you wanting things done same day or next day. Multiple lengthy tasks due back to back. Even with a few due together. I can’t tell you how many times I was in disbelief at how horrible their planning and organization of projects/campaigns are. All they do is say they “understand” while proceeding to hound on top of you to get all of it done, pinging you after pinging you after pinging you—absolutely zero trust present. They live by micromanagement. They make you suffer, work longer hours, and, again, there is no overtime pay. There is no “team achievement acknowledgment or team wins” — just, “Thanks.”
Leadership needs A LOT of work. That is all.
Again, you get a “Thanks.” for what you handle/complete/achieve and a long drawn out and bashful speech for ANYTHING they deem a hiccup, like joining a meeting at exactly 12:01 instead of 12:00. But they can miss an entire meeting and afterwards say, “Sorry guys my alarm didn’t wake me up haha.” No. Take a page out of your own book and, “Maybe you should get a louder alarm” then. Buy two alarms. Unacceptable to miss any meeting, but 1 minute late to a meeting is bashful. A complete joke. And this person will get away with everything because of how drawn out their responses are to be “so well said” and people just fall for it. It’s comical. Horrible management and overseeing of management.
Again, you have been warned. Look elsewhere.
