No HR…

Pros

Looks good on resume, employee discount and free samples.

Cons

Toxic work culture. It’s a boys club yet the women are running rampant through the cubicles gossiping about one another. It was like a demented high school with grown ups. No work life balance, would get the side eye if I left right on time and no remote work. 2 weeks of PTO and have to be there for 10 years to get a 3rd week. 5 holidays… 5. Black out period from November 1-Christmas so good luck spending time with your family if you’re not local. There is no HR department. I didn’t even know that was legal or that I needed to ask that question while interviewing. They see HR as an unnecessary investment which kinda sums it all up because they don’t value the people that work there so why would they have a human resources department? I genuinely felt like 80% of the people that worked there were absolutely miserable. stuck in the corporate rat race constantly projecting their misery onto everyone else. It was quite depressing.

Pros

You can transfer and they keep your pay.

Cons

I worked for Dillards as multiple different things I start out as visual then got promoted to ASM (salaried) after 6 months. I loved it until 2020 I got demoted to a BSM (hourly + commission) I was so upset because I worked so hard to be where I was. I moved due to personal reasons and transferred to a different store. I had a family member pass away and was told I could Go to the funeral but I had to come back to work after and I was not allowed to be upset or cry. So I put in my notice. I moved back to where I was before and the store manager from Covid (2020) kept asking me to return I did. But I had to take a lesser position because nothing was open. Which is fair.I was promised to be promoted when a spot opened. A position opened up and I was passed up for someone with no selling experience or managed any one. A year goes by and still nothing. They don’t have an HR They have extreme favoritism

Pros

Getting paid weekly is nice. Your birthday is a paid day off.

Cons

Where to begin? You don’t get an employee discount unless you get the store credit card which is completely unfair. There is no HR department so if something inappropriate is happening, there’s not really a confidential way to report it especially if it involves the store manager. ASM’s work well over 40 hours and aren’t compensated for it while the store/assistant managers slack off in their offices doing absolutely nothing. Corporate visits are a joke. Executive leadership is so out of touch w/ front line employees. Each one should work in a store for a week and measure themselves by the same metrics/expectations they’re demanding of store employees. The systems are so antiquated and it’s an act of congress to get new computers b/c the company doesn’t want to spend the money yet the Dillard’s have no issue flying on their private jet to cities that are in driving distance which is a colossal waste of money and environmentally irresponsible. Customers miss having real sales but the company insists things like the annual New Year’s Day sale hurts business when that was part of the legacy that made people shop at Dillard’s. Oh, and the reward for doing your job well? Having to do other people’s jobs and they end up getting promoted.
