Pros
Company which cares. Work-life balance and sustainable productivity is one of the core values of the company. Working off hours or workaholism bragging are severely judged. Not feeling guilty for not replying off hours is priceless :) Colleagues which never cease to surprise and always challenge. Despite its relatively small size, the company managed to embrace the diversity and to attract exceptional characters. For example, I’m from Russia, and monolinguals are prevalent there, so I was at first surprised that Amir (the founder of the company) is fluent in four languages. Then I discovered that by no means he’s an outlier, and I know some people are very motivated to learn new languages just because they are in the environment where it’s a norm rather then exception. Yearly retreats. It’s essentially when the company makes a week-long yearly celebration for all the peers. It’s work and leisure, but it’s mostly about talking to your colleagues IRL and getting to know better each other. The company takes care of organizing everything and covers all the expenses. Feeling that you shape the future. Remote-first organization is still a rare beast, and the company experiments a lot with different ways to organize the work in a way that probably nobody tried before. It adds a certain amount of turbulence, but it also lets everyone to shape the work environment the way they find it right.
Cons
Remote work is not for everyone. There is a great freedom on choosing the lifestyle, and there are many ways you can ruin your experience: from staying home whole days and cutting all your social interactions to irrepressible traveling “just because you can”, etc. Family, healthy routine, socializing outside of work and physical activity help me to feel happy and productive. Another issue, is that because the company identify itself as a pioneer in the way we work, the amount of self-experiments and dogfooding can be overwhelming. At the moment of writing the company is still searching for the best way to organize their work and communication in the most effective way, and while the progress is substantial, one has to be prepared for quite radical internal changes.
