Pros

None that I experienced during my time there

Cons

- Poor compensation for freelancers despite wasting money on expensive company retreats - No equipment provided (expected to use personal laptop) - "Async" culture is misleading - daily barrage of hundreds of notifications and chat messages - Unresponsive team with poor communication - Management lacks awareness of ongoing projects and team needs - Broken promises regarding internal hiring and career progression - Unprofessional offboarding process - promised follow-up never materialized (though not surprised seeing how disorganized the HR team is) - Very questionable hiring decisions

Doist Response

Thank you for adding a review. We are really sad to see that you didn't have a positive experience, we aim for every Doister and everyone we engage with, to have a great experience in our remote and distributed environment. Our asyncronous environment has been created to allow for non-linear work days and we never require any type of instant responses, but appreciate all your feedback on how you experienced this. For freelancing roles, we usually do not supply equipment but supply a $3000 - $5000 perk to allow for equipment as well as welcome perk for equipment of an additional $600, for all fulltime opportunities. Please don't hesitate to schedule a call directly with the Head of People, Nadia, via her email address, we always welcome a constructive conversation. Wishing you the absolute best in the next steps of your career.

Pros

- Well developed asynchronous culture and management - Great company culture - Great salary, bonus and perks - Openness to diversity and inclusion (still under development)

Cons

- Whilst there is openness to purpose changes to practices or policies, sometimes it's hard to really make changes to practices and policies - Understaffed teams make the work routine overwhelming - Huge legacy systems developed with no good software engineering practices make it really hard to maintain and improve them - No prioritization to address historical technical debts (related to item 2 above)

Pros

Doist is a team composed of a diverse and talented group of people, from all over the world. It's a rare opportunity to be able to work and learn from so many different people, directly from your home. Doist is more than a firm, it's a family which gives you the support system to grow professionally and personally. Learning from other human beings is at the center of everything we do. This is also reflected in our products: we work every day to improve the life of our users, everywhere. It's not just a motto written somewhere on our website, it's actually what we do.

Cons

The remote work life can be challenging at times. It requires being able to listen to yourself to learn when to work and when to disconnect. You're continuously working to create the best work environment for yourself. Despite this, remote remains the best way to work because, when you figure this out (and you will), you can give your best at work while enjoying a fulfilling personal life.
