Pros

There is a strong mechanical engineering group, with some on ASME code committees. Some are willing to teach younger engineers.

Cons

The location was not very good. The plant is in the middle of a small town (Ornage, TX) with no night life. Shops close early on the week days, and you're lucky to find one open on the the weekends. East Texas is not a friendly area for minorities. Employees tend to be very clicky, so if you're not part of the group, it's tough to succeed. There's a lot of GOB networking. Employees are very cut throat, and I witnessed this behavior encouraged by management. Needless to say, it's a highly stressful work environment. Beware of who you trust. Management does not support outside training.

Pros

Good Pay, relatively good benefits. Looks liek there's advancement potential...but you need to do it the duPont way.

Cons

You need to do things the duPont way. Hiring processes at some facilities wasn't always kept continuous and it results in out of balance work crews. Think: the average age ina plant is 50 years with 30 years of service. How does a young person start in that plant? How about the difficulty of a much younger engineer asking much older operators to do something?

Pros

Respectful work environment and safety culture are positives. The work associated with manufacturing operations is challenging and fulfilling. Many of the people you work with are committed to the team and success of the organization.

Cons

At Dupont, there is an over emphasis on promoting diversity. The diverse work teams are a positive, but cthe consideration for advancement for designated minorities outweighs an objective evaluation of merit among employees. The result is an undermining of morale within the organization, and in some cases overall organization is hurt by placing people in roles for which they are unqualified or unprepared.
