Abusive, toxic, and unethical.

Pros

Excellent technologies, scrappy bidders, good coffee.

Cons

When a contract is won, an arbitrary budget is established by the PM that hourly workers furnish. Dudek's profit strategy is to undercut its technicians as much as possible, then PMs pocket the money in their semi-annual bonuses. As a result, I was asked often not to report hours I worked, or re-arrange hours to avoid overhead. Verbal abuse is general practice. I reported that my superior cut my hours as a punishment to higher and the response was "well, that's the way it goes sometimes." They do not promote from within, and because of their high turnover rate, this company will fold in the coming recession.

Rapidly decaying company

Pros

variety of projects and people to work with

Cons

With its own authentic culture, amazing people to work with, great office locations Dudek had a lot to offer in the past. Everything has changed after the original owner retired a couple of years ago. The new management doesn’t care about anything but profit. DUDEK culture is dead. Many great, highly professional and knowledgeable employees have left, were let go, or are looking for a job. The rest of dudekians that still remember DUDEK’s “good old days” is very frustrated. Bullying, misogyny, and xenophobia thrive. Personal, psychological, sexual harassment doesn’t get punished for ages, if ever (it was shocking to be yelled at by the group manager who seems to have anger management problem; it’s never happened to me before, and I do not want to experience it again). Group managers are appointed to their positions not based on their experience, knowledge and management skills but on personal relationships with the upper managers. As a result, many groups are led by the people NOT professional in that area (as one of the previous reviews mentioned, biology and cultural resources groups are led by CEQA professionals). It’s a good place for entry level professional who tries to get his/her foot in the door. The company is quite big and you get to work with variety of people and projects. But once you learn enough to get a better job, LEAVE. Do not stay there too long; your efforts will never be appreciated or compensated.

Heading in the wrong direction

Pros

Decent pay, remote/hybrid work, nice office spaces, and some interesting projects.

Cons

The company is becoming increasingly corporate with a shrinking list of benefits. Middle management is out of touch and more concerned with profit margins than the quality of the work. Thoughts and concerns expressed to upper management are frequently ignored. Expect to work many unpaid hours here and to grind away to maximize the bonuses of middle and upper management.
