Bad work culture

Pros

Golden handcuffs is what they call some of the employee benefits at Duke if you work there long enough to get the highest 401K match.

Cons

The work culture is negative and very bad in some clinics, hospital departments, the ER, and administrative teams. Though some benefits are good the pay is often low, especially for those who have stayed with the organization. They will hire in younger employees for more than older established one.

Very Insular

Pros

Enormous institutional resources (guest lectures, prominent faculty)

Cons

Not welcoming to new employees (esp considering I began working during pandemic) Duke lifers or long time employees didn't seem to recognize the value of employees from other states and comparable institutions.

Toxic work culture

Pros

Good benefits and access to healthcare. Lots of learning opportunities and pathology.

Cons

Most miserable group of docs and nurses I’ve ever met. People are strange and cliqueish and are brainwashed soldiers
