Pros

The founders are amazing, kind, brilliant, and amongst the hardest working people in the company. Duo's culture is interesting, very fluid and ever changing and flowing, the employees are genuine, kind and hardworking. The people are what makes Duo different from anywhere else, the "no jerk" policy is critical in keeping Duo the best place on the planet to work. These people work together as a unit. Always teaching, learning, growing, building, inventing, creating, inspiring, motivating, and changing the world each day as a team. I am very proud to be part of such an astounding group of people.

Cons

Not all members of the management team have the same vision or aspirations and goals for the future of the company as a whole. Management can be quite sexist. As a whole everyone (especially management and HR) is more focused on our rapid growth and less about their current employees.

Thank you for your honest feedback. I'm deeply concerned about your comment that "management can be quite sexist," and hope you might speak with me or P&C in confidence about this. We will not tolerate workplace discrimination of any kind. It's important to me that everyone at Duo has the opportunity to do their best work, and a voice that matters. Supporting our employee-led initiatives (such as women@duo) is part of this, though we need to make sure these are effective, and not just token efforts. Building an inclusive culture is not easy, and we can always do better. Finally, I’m sorry that our existing channels for feedback are not supporting you well, and hope that you will connect directly with me or P&C. Let's talk soon...

Once great but still good

Pros

Duo changed my career. It'll always be a point of pride for me. There are still a lot of positives if you're on the engineering side of the business. For the sake of Ann Arbor, and all the people that work on building the product, I hope that stays true. Unfortunately, Cisco really doesn't know what to do with sales, marketing and other go-to-market functions and it shows. Work/life balance continues to be very good. It's definitely a place where you can have the freedom to pursue hobbies, raise a family, etc. I've never worked at a company with such a positive view on work/life balance. This alone is enough reason for a lot of people to stay, or join, the company.

Cons

Almost every conversation with co-workers starts with "how much longer will you stay?" This has been one of the most jarring and sudden changes in the post-acquisition phase. If you're interested in a job at Duo, make sure to get the biggest compensation package you can. Once you're in, it's virtually impossible to get a raise of any significance. Cisco is a company that is desperately fighting for single digit revenue growth and is very focused on cost reduction. There are high-performing people at Duo that haven't gotten a raise in 2+ years. Duo had a great exit for a small number of people and investors. Unfortunately, there's no real sense of excitement for this next phase and not a lot to look forward to. Cisco is pushing down all the worst parts of a big company. The tools and software are terrible. The processes are painfully slow. Promotions and raises are difficult to come by. Many of us spend a good amount of our time wading through bureaucracy, jumping through hoops, and sitting in meeting after meeting just to accomplish the most simple of things.

Thank you for leaving your feedback, please know it's important to us. We love hearing that Duo changed your career and that you're proud of that. Thank you for sticking with us during times of change. As we grow with Cisco, a company 100x our size, there will surely be some bureaucracy. We're doing everything we reasonably can to keep that from getting in your way. We strive to provide an environment where everyone feels they’re valued, treated fairly and respected. Thank you again for your comments!

Best job I've ever had

Pros

Best job I've ever had. Incredible opportunity to build products that customers love, and work on an important mission to protect organizations from data breach. The company is growing quickly. For those who see this as an opportunity to have a big impact on the company, it's a wonderful place to roll up your sleeves and dive in. Really good work/life balance. Incredibly smart, kind people. I'm eager to come into work every day. I'm excited by the nature of my work, and my collaborators. I'm learning a lot, have autonomy, support from my manager, and room to grow.

Cons

If you're someone who thrives in an environment that doesn't change very much, or has a lot of structure and processes already in place, you might not thrive here. Duo is growing and changing quickly. It makes it fun and exciting, but only if you're interested in chipping in on the project of building the company itself.

Learning, support from your leader. and the ability to grow your career with us are core to who we are at Duo. While we still have a lot of work to do to continue to invest in these areas as we scale, feedback like this helps us see our progress so far. Thank you for sharing!
