Dyson has a great 401k plan. The health and dental are ok.

It is difficult to move up in the company. It can be hard to get time off.

We appreciate your feedback! It’s important for us to hear where we can improve and where we are getting it right for our employees. We are proud to offer competitive benefits including health, dental, and our fantastic 401(k) plan (you are 100% vested the day you are eligible!). We are also finding new ways to help people develop and progress their careers at Dyson: improved performance management tools to help employees set and work toward career goals; the new Be Dyson Grant which allows people to drive their own development in creative ways; and a concerted focus on filling open positions with internal talent. Specifically in the Customer Contact Center, we have created a tiered development progression plan which will create new career opportunities for all of our customer service agents who are looking to have a career at Dyson. Thank you again for your feedback. We will continue to challenge ourselves to improve. Best wishes for your future endeavors.

Pros

I have worked for Dyson for four years. Very cool products, or at least they used to be. Their newest products have problems and it seems the creativity and ingenuity might be drying up.

Cons

Extremely incompetent management with very little emotional intelligence. The whole lot are trained to be clock watchers and spend more time watching others and focusing on trivial details than inspiring and driving for true results. Unfortunately, the entire management team both in the US and many in the UK have a inflated view of how the world sees Dyson. We are not saving lives and often times, people have never heard of us nor care to learn more. The employees are not valued and seen as easily replaceable. Internally, there is constant discussion about how horrible the culture is and management knows this and yet, without shame, acknowledges that they don't care. People should feel privileged to work for Dyson and should expect nothing in return is their view. They care more about the product reviews on Amazon and acknowledge that they do not care about the reviews here. The US business is doing poorly now. Most employees are looking elsewhere and all the while leadership keeps doing the same thing day in and day out expecting different results.

Dear Current Employee, Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I’m glad you have invested in Dyson for the last four years and we hope to keep you engaged for more years to come. The products are still cool – please don’t lose faith. I hope you were able to attend the recent café briefing where our CEO reiterated Dyson’s investment in our machines – lots of innovation happening and it won’t stop! I am glad you called out the bit about emotional intelligence, because it is critical to good leadership. People want to follow people who are self-aware, understand their warts and do something about them so that we have more inspirational leaders that people want to follow. A lot of work is underway to bring the importance of emotional intelligence to life. For example, we’ve sent our leaders to internal leadership development training to teach them how to lead at Dyson. We also launched the Dyson behaviors and are infusing them into all our people processes – recruitment, management, and development – and how to be more emotionally smart (attuned) is one of them! And, we are offering workshops for any leader to work through inspirational leadership – what it means and how to develop the qualities that are critical to create followership. Our machines are important to our current and future consumers and improve how they live in their environment. We try to communicate that in a way that our consumers and employees understand the value we bring, and we know we can do an even better job making that message feel more impactful. We need our employees to help us continue to improve and are actively working to engage everyone, no matter what level, so they feel part of our future. It is a privilege to work at Dyson. Where else could you be surrounded by great technology, smart people who want to make a difference, and work in a cool space in an amazing Chicago neighborhood where creativity, passion, and a competitive spirit is embraced? And, we, as leaders, should never take that privilege for granted. If that is your experience, I would love to talk to you so that I can share what we are doing to help you feel like Dyson is a great place to work and that you should expect something in return from us. All reviews are important to us and we need to make sure that we are responding to them. Responding to Glassdoor and other employment reviews is new for us, and we are getting the hang of it. I wish we would have started sooner so that we could respond to things that people are feeling as well as celebrate all the positive stories too, such as how well the US business is performing. The activities our employees are working on are different, exciting and the results are evident of the work that is being done. I agree that having leaders who understand employee engagement is critical. We heard your feedback as well as others, and the leadership team members have represented very strong brands in the marketplace. They understand the value of employee engagement, and we as a team have identified what we need to do to keep our talent at Dyson. Sincerely, Tanya Hayes VP of Human Resources
