Pros

Company mission is to help de-carbonize by influencing utilities, so lots of leverage and impact at making the world a better place. Lots of variety of work, doesn't get stale. Nature of work provides lots of experience and insight in the energy industry

Cons

You need to be liked by certain individuals to move up or be treated fairly. Pay is 20-30% under industry rate. Overworked underpaid staff make this company hard to recommend after owners sold company. High turnover has been the norm.

Pros

-The org is pretty well respected in the industry -Some good topical variation in your work -Learn a very unique skill set of writing, speaking, event organizing, and advising/consulting

Cons

A word of caution if you are just graduating and looking to work at E Source as a researcher. They target new grads. They will help you develop a very unique skill set which is actually great as a career jumping-off point. But don't expect this to be a long-term career path. There's a lot of pressure on a small group of researchers to deliver, meanwhile a huge entrenched management class that spends all day in meetings amongst themselves. You'll constantly be asked for more output and to follow new procedures/requirements by this management class. There's virtually no career path, you might get a few promotions but at most, after 3+ years they'll make you a 'people manager' of one or two people which is how there becomes a huge management class with very few people actually doing the work. TL;DR : Ok place to learn some skills but not a place to build a career.

Pros

Some of the problems we worked on were interesting

Cons

- Compensation is poor; Mid-level data scientists are paid well below the median salary for entry-level data scientists in the US - Little opportunity for career advancement even when management recognizes good performance - E Source was acquired by a private equity firm called Align Capital Partners a couple years back. I would bet that ACP is putting pressure on management to cut wages. - High attrition rate (I think 4 out of 13 people left our team in the first half of 2022) - Poor upper management—team was led by someone who was always overwhelmed, unresponsive, and unsupportive
