Outdated Software

Pros

Friendly colleagues. Might be okay for someone just starting out in tech support. PTO is average for the tech industry (probably better than average compared to other industries).

Cons

One of the worst products I've ever seen. Felt like I had time traveled back to 1998. Training consisted of watching outdated customer training videos and something went wrong with the product in most of the videos. Health insurance is twice as expensive as average. Salaries are well below average.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback. We are pleased to hear that you appreciated your colleagues during your time at ECI. However, we regret that your experiences with us did not meet your expectations, particularly regarding support training. Our leadership is reviewing and revising our current training and continuing education programs for our Customer Support employees, so we can provide the best service to our customers. We wish we had the opportunity to resolve these concerns while you were employed, however, we appreciate your feedback now. We wish you the best.

A Great Place to Work!

Pros

I have loved working at ECI! My manager and mentors value and support me. They challenge me to grow and develop my skills while allowing me the autonomy to work independently, without micromanagement. ECI promotes a healthy work-life balance, which significantly enhances my daily experience. Overall, it’s a great place to work!

Cons

Gender diversity: There are barely any women in my department, and I sometimes feel outnumbered—but that's typical in a software company.

Pros

Remote work. Not too many meetings. Good Scrum habits to a point. Friendly place.

Cons

Very old software. Test automation is just getting started. Management prefers divide-n-conquer to team work. It's not a safe place to ask many questions as they don't wish to grow people.

Pros

They spend a lot of money on training and software to help make the job easier

Cons

Just Stay Away

Pros

PTO is good, If you want to be hands-off, you'll find a lot of like-minded people. I think some of the newer people actually know a thing or two about modern software development and truly want to change the place - I don't think they'll get around the corporate nature of the place, and there's too many bad apples to trust the whole place isn't going to go rotten.

Cons

Just stay away from this place. I'm not convinced anyone actually does their jobs, but they're really good at talking circles around it. The software is archaic and the company really only makes money by acquiring companies, charging more for the same software, and repeating. The Utah office is an eclectic mix of racist (lots of inappropriate jokes), sexist (literally not a single woman in the office, and again, more inappropriate jokes and men joking about their wives and such), and homophobic. If you don't fit the white, cis, straight, male atmosphere (which accounts for the entire office) you'll find yourself in a lot of uncomfy situations. And if you voice concern about any of that, they'll get rid of you. First they'll suggest that maybe you can just be remote and they'll try to work on things, but then the big-boss in corporate will say "No, actually. Just fire them and try to gaslight them into thinking it's a resignation." They use a lot of outdated tech. The laptops suck. They shipped two monitors and a docking hub for said monitors - not only do the monitors look like they come from the early 2000s, they only have HDMI ports and the docking hub only accepts 1 HDMI input. So they can't even give you the proper tech to do your job. That's not to mention they're incapable of getting employees access to the software needed to actually function in their role. It's just red-tape after more red-tape. They're not really interested in building anything new, only maintaining the outdated software they have. And I can't tell you how many times it was expressed to me that the product was a dying product by the people who were tasked with maintaining it. They want to hire new people to swoop in and save the day, but they don't really pay all that well and, as said above, they don't give people the equipment or the autonomy to be able to do that. One of my favorite things: You'll meet with HR and they will say that ECI is a remote-first company. You will work with an entire team who is out-of-state and thus, remote. But they'll still ask you to go into their racist, misogynistic, and homophobic office. Again, if all you want is a paycheck and you don't really care about the quality of your work or even about working hard - you'll probably be fine with this place. Particularly if you're not in the Utah office. Otherwise, you're going to hate it. And if you're queer, not white, or a woman, you'll have a lot of fun navigating the Utah office. (That's sarcasm)

Pros

Remote options (stipulations). Room for career growth (if you can get out of the support trap). Clearly stated goals. Good communication. Good people. Metrics and sales driven. Merit increase and bonuses yearly (nothing exciting - low to average).

Cons

KPI focused to the point of confusion. They use an employee scorecard and rank each employee. KPI's are the same for every software ECI owns, big or small, disregarding the individual challenges of each software. The case resolve goal is the same for all of them. Easy software or hard software. And its not really a goal. You have to make your numbers. It's luck of the draw if you get hired into a software where you can actually make all of your KPI requirements. And be prepared to see yourself ranked at the bottom if your helping them support a large software. Clap for the people at the top working in the easy software. There are major flaws in the scorecard. It's not fair at all. Employees are pitted against each other. We don't even want to help each other now. No credit given for helping train up the new employees unless the training is like a half of day long. Which is impossible because management wont take people away from resolving cases day after day for real employee training. It pretty much fend for yourself with hardly any training materials. Anyone who ever knew the software already left anyway. There's no dedicated training staff. It's a fail, fail situation. You can work remote full time if you were hired remote - even if your not meeting your numbers. But if you live kind of near an office you have to work from the office until you make all of your numbers. Even if there's no one from your same software in the office. It's pretty childish. It's like punishment for not making your KPI's but the punishment only applies to certain people. It's just another example of unfairness that management is oblivious to. All in all, ECI used to be a great place to work. But the focus on people has dropped from the top priority to the bottom of the list. If you get interviewed, make sure it's with an easy software so you can make your numbers and not stress out all the time. Avoid the software where people are ranked at the bottom of the scorecard. They do have a free mental health mental day. But they made some of support work anyway. Everyone else in the entire company got the day off. Thats about how support is treated in any situation.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback and we are sorry you had a bad experience. We would like to address a few points that you’ve mentioned as we feel there are some misunderstandings. First, we’d like to note that we measure our agents on their performance, within product teams, and the broader organization. This allows us to compare agents supporting a product to each other first and foremost. We do offer a very liberal and clearly articulated work from home policy, which allows our employees to control their own destiny. As long as they meet their targets, they are free to work from home, which we believe is essential for maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Regarding our Well-being Day, we do ask that a small portion of our employees work that day to ensure our small and medium enterprise businesses had the support they needed to continue to use our software to run their businesses. However, each and every one of those employees who was asked to work were given another day off to ensure they were able to participate in the spirit of that day and take care of their well-being. Finally, we would like to assure you that we are continually looking for ways to improve our support teams’ training and standardize it across all products. We understand the importance of providing consistent and effective support to our customers, and we are committed to making improvements where necessary. We thank you for your feedback, and we hope we have the opportunity to clear up any other concerns in the future.

Pros

I enjoyed working with some of the people.

Cons

The company was bought by a private equity firm. Once the company had fully transitioned over to the new management, they were fully embracing and using the agile "scrum" methodology and pushing new software developers to work at a rate equivalent to those who knew and worked with the software for 15+ years. The company prefers quantity over quality. There were several times where the DEV database was not in synchronization with the DEV software, because of developer error. This is a company where pace of work outweighs quality. Also, of note, you will be working with legacy VB.NET software, and forget about Entity Framework. This company created their own database classes to interface with the database, and these classes tend to have crashes because of problems with the database and the software not being in synch. I attended a luncheon for an employee and was seated at the same table as the President of the Lumber, Building, and Hardware Division. The president of the division made a few disturbing comments at a table consisting of 1 woman and several men. "My dog does not like to get his pecker wet when we go hunting, and he defecates in his food bowl. I am waiting for my dog to die. "
