Pros

Decent Pay, Good place to further education

Cons

Higher ups act like they care but will throw you away without a care, Waited a year on a promotion that was told I would get at 6 months, No dental, Took away most vacation days, Haven't had a lunch/sprint meeting in months

"ECRS Software Development Teams are self-organizing/self-managing scrum teams. The team chooses who will join and ultimately who will leave the team. ECRS seeks to hire, and invest in, the best and brightest people who can manage their time, work, and life to make the most of each day. At ECRS "higher ups" are not involved in the day-to-day ins and outs of the Software Development Teams and do not make choices for the scrum teams - this is left to the team to determine. It should also be noted that ECRS has an extremely low developer turnover rate, and we have never had layoffs, in our 33-year history. ECRS has productivity levels in place to guide our technical employees’ careers. Promotions are performance based on standards that must be met for advancement. Therefore, promotions are never guaranteed or structured on a specific timeline and are ultimately decided upon by the Scrum Team Members, and the initiative of the individual. ECRS has a competitive benefits package that includes paid time off, sick time, health insurance (individual and family), Funded HSA, 401k retirement (up to 6% matching), paid holidays, extensive maternity leave and more". -ECRS Scrum Masters

Pros

Coworkers were incredibly kind and helpful. This was my first experience in the industry but I've been told that en environment like this is very rare. There are lots of projects that need different expertise. A majority of projects I was aware of were web applications, server applications, or hardware, just about everything in java. Management defaults to autonomy before micromanaging, which most people would likely find refreshing. Also worth mentioning, the President of Development has worked with ECRS for 20+ years and is an experienced developer, so as a project lead you would have someone over you with reasonable expectations, which again, I've been told is not often the case. Also, supposedly some people hear typing after hours and think there is a ghost; but like everyone else, he's friendly.

Cons

Everything is done in Java--everything--which certainly isn't a con if you love Java! Web App servers are written in Java, the front end projects use Google's GWT Java library. The databases are of course SQL, but interfaced with through Java (the library depends on which project you're on. Could be MyBatis or JDBC, etc).

ECRS has, and continues to transition our front end over to Vue.js, replacing Google GWT.
