Good Coworkers - Corporate to the Core

Pros

Coworkers were the best I've ever had. They were incredibly hard working and fun to be around. Health insurance is top notch.

Cons

Customer service is the central point of your job, no matter what you do. It is a company first and a school second. All staff, but especially teachers, are NOT paid a livable wage. The teachers are HOURLY! What?! ~$30 for 80 minute classes? What a joke. If you are not staff, forget paid time off or sick days, raises are rare and do not fairly compensate for the hard work. They treat their employees like tools rather than sources for future innovation. Turnover was the highest I've ever experienced. They keep it running with the sweat, blood, and tears of people who genuinely care about their students. If you are a new professional, this is a great way to start your career and then get the heck out of dodge for a better work environment. It's very sad for people who have to stick around.

Pros

The support staff are very responsive and helpful, and the students are very motivated and respectful. Scheduling is also very flexible.

Cons

My hours have been unpredictable recently, and the class exercises can sometimes seem confusing to students. I think the company could also offer higher pay. Teachers also don't get paid for the full class when students don't show up for class although I believe the students have paid the company for the class.

Pros

I'm having a hard time thinking of pros of this job. One benefit is that since the clientele is adults, I have been able to schedule students during the day, for me EST.

Cons

Now having said that I have had students scheduled during the day, I can very easily talk about one of my chief complaints about EF. At least half of the booked sessions ended with students not showing up. This wouldn't be so frustrating if I actually got paid for a full session. I'm sure that EF gets their money either way, but for me, I only get either 30 or 40%, not nearly enough compensation for my time considering I only make $12/hr. Yes, they'll say that you can do writing corrections, but it's still feels like a waste of time, and you have to be FAST at the corrections. TComplaint number 3, or is it 4? The slides used for lessons are lame. Sorry I can't think of a better word, but they just didn't seem helpful for the student or easy to use for me. From the start, I have felt underpaid, underappreciated, and underworked. It's too bad. If they'd raise the standards for teachers a little and then pay us more, even for classes that cancel, it could be good. I'm done with EF.
