Pros

The only pros are free coffee with your choice of Folgers or Keurig and monthly 15 min. birthday cake and sometimes ice cream, if the CEO is feeling generous. Some of the employees are nice, but a lot are fresh from MTSU or Nashville Software School and have no other work experience outside of EFC. Most of the people that were hired that have work experience at other companies immediately try to find new work after a few months. The people who don't are getting paid well enough to put up with this company. Salary should be higher than most other companies with all the cons going for it.

Cons

I warn any Software Developer to rethink working here no matter what they offer you. Here are some of things that you can expect while working at EFC: - Poor Project Management. Expect random major changes to things you are working on and management (especially the CEO) expect you to still finish it in the original time slotted. Work is consistently unclear when tasked out to the development teams that there will be multiple meetings to try to fill in what the written documents do not say. - Not an AGILE working environment. The company will try to tell you in your interview that they are moving towards that but they will never reach it. This company is slow to make any changes. Few people are allowed to bid on work and allow their input on how long something might take. Those people are the ones who don't write code or QA the application. They're the chickens. - Codebase. The applications you will be working on are all ancient and they stay ancient for fear of breaking features. Important business logic is based in the user interface. Forms can be 10,000 lines long with hundreds of controls. Any software architect would lose their mind at how bad the applications are laid out. There are no unit tests and it would be pointless anyways since there are no business logic classes. - Micromanagement. There is literally a document on how many pixels away controls should be. New forms or user controls must all be approved by management and must fit the existing application's horrible UI. Crystal Reports are the same way. They must be run by the VP of Software Development. - QA. The company refuses to hire any new QA people. QA literally has no idea how to test something until a few days before it is due. There is no time for them to write test cases or give development test cases to use in validation of work. - Career Movement. There is none. Unless you were one of the people stuck working there for ~10 years already. Everyone in senior positions at EFC is a lifer. They have not worked any other jobs outside of EFC or gained any experience of how a good company operates. This is especially true for the senior people in development department. - No benefits. There are no benefits provided to employees outside of free coffee. They let it be known that your web traffic is recorded and monitored. You can't use your computer to stream music and there is no provided WiFi to stream music from. You are allowed to listen to music on your phone so hopefully you have unlimited data or own a library of music to download to your phone. Any outside web traffic is heavily frowned upon but they don't have a block on it. I'm guessing some employees are allowed, but the minions are not. - Punctuality. As other reviews have stated, if you are running late you have to call the HR hotline and report when you will arrive. That time cannot be made up and you will be taken out of your PTO. You will be forced to take an hour lunch. Leaving early and making up time is not an option. There is no option to work from home either. - Health Care. It's the worst I've encountered. - Bonuses. There are no bonuses at this company, but you will be given a Bluetooth speaker every Christmas and you will pay taxes on it. - Work life. Expect every employee to act like a zombie when they get to work. I've never worked with a more miserable group of people in my life. The only ones that seemed happy to be there are the ones close to the CEO. The environment is drab and dreary. Everything is a shade of brown with the occasional picture of farming equipment. There is a hallway of lifer pictures to know who is regarded as favorites to the CEO. It also lists how long they've worked there for. You'll have a cubicle and you'll spend your days there listening to silence or an 80's dot matrix printer if you don't have music on your phone.

TRUST YOUR GUT!!

Pros

The salary. That's about it.

Cons

Trust your gut with this place!!! They are so desperate for people to work here, they will hire you immediately after the interview, promising you higher pay, extra vacation time; telling you that you can make this position into anything you want. It's all a lie! While they did give me a salary bump from my previous position, they went back on the extra vacation time I was promised on hire. They are also so desperate for people to stay that if you threaten to quit, you will be offered higher pay and other benefits until you promise to stay. I have heard from multiple sources that this is the only way to get anywhere within the company. The founder and CEO is a nightmare to work with. I found myself being treated unprofessionally on a constant basis, being degraded and spoken to as if I were a child. They constantly ask for "go-getters" and "people that don't ask for permission," but if you go against the CEO's wishes, WATCH OUT. He is a giant bully with a magnifying glass, and he picks on a different person each week to be his own scapegoat. There is no customer service, no communication, no direction, constant over time for the CEO's mistakes. And if you tell him he's incorrect, don't ever expect an apology; he is never wrong. But don't worry, he'll always be pointing out when you're doing something wrong, and never when you do something right. The rest of upper management are total suck ups, bending at the CEO's every demand. I was told by multiple VPs relating to my position that I would be attending a conference since I was hired on, months ahead of the event. When the event rolled around and I was not on the attendance list, it was because "the CEO decided it wasn't important for you to be there" despite what multiple others in the company suggested. Being the founder, the CEO is also heavily involved in every day tasks, making it frustrating for anyone trying to get their job done. He has demanded on attending each and every sales proposal meeting, because he is untrusting of any employee that he hasn't worked with for more than 10 years. He has to micromanage every aspect of the company, demanding to approve every single email blast that goes out from a software update notice to a company Christmas card. He even has to approve internal memos that go out from the administrative assistant, including notices of free donuts and cake in the break rooms. I wish this was an exaggeration. Not only that, but he goes over any of the VPs heads in terms of financing, demanding to approve office supply orders and the thermostat of the building. You cannot suggest growth or new ideas within the company, because the CEO is so bogged down with mundane the tasks listed above, that he has no time and energy to put into new ideas, which makes the whole company suffer. They have no online or social media presence, because those in that position cannot be trusted enough to do the job they were hired for without his approval. But he never has time to listen to new ideas or approve anything, so the company has stagnated. Upper management are all Baby Boomer, misogynistic white men with no regard to the female or working single mothers of the company. There is no work from home policy, despite the entire company being cloud-based and every employee working on laptops. If your child is sick and needs to be picked up from school, you will either be docked pay for the day, or told to come back to work immediately, often times resulting in young, sick children sleeping in empty offices or cubicles. This is the policy because all of the upper management, including the CEO, have stay at home wives or are child-free, making it a huge disconnect to the problems of their employees because it is a non-issue for them, so it shouldn't be an issue for anyone else. The mantra of the office is that if you're not in your seat, you're not working. This has resulted in employees developing lower back problems from sitting for too long, as well as being reprimanded for taking brief breaks to stretch their legs. You can take this review "with a grain of salt" or from a "disgruntled employee" but just make sure you do your homework and reach out to other current employees before accepting a position here. They will all have similar stories.

Detailed day-to-day vibe at EFC

Pros

The people! This place is packed with incredible beings, however, unfortunately there are a few beings that know how to rain on every parade. Otherwise, you can make some good friends with your colleagues. Coffee is free and unlimited. Location. In the heart of Brentwood's commercial neighborhood so there's many good eats near by. Pro Tip: The Hilton allows people to park and spend their lunch in their parking lot (includes shade!!). Be on the lookout! You'll see deer, turkeys, and other wildlife nearby. Music!! Unless your job is to be on phones, you may listen to music with headphones as you work. Although, that still won't drown out the white noise or repetitive over-the-phone demos. Resume. EFC is great for resume building. They hire a ton of recent college graduates. Many of the departments coordinate directly so you're able to get some experience/knowledge for more than just your position resulting in a more well-rounded resume. Like a challenge? EFC is full of challenges. There's no shortage of challenge at this company. You'll stay busy unless someone instructs you to do less. When you're busy 5 P.M. comes quickly. Industry. This company provides a tool for the agricultural industry. If you've never met a farmer, you're missing out! The Ag industry is full of wise, interesting, and benevolent humans. While some may not be the most tech-savvy, don't underestimate their knowledge. They also tend to have great stories and could make a Queen's Guard laugh. Attire. They allow tattoos and piercings so long as it's tasteful and appropriate for certain situations (i.e. cover tattoos when client facing). Business casual is the everyday at EFC. They even recently allowed denim jeans to be worn! Can you believe that? After 25 years, cowboys can wear their Levi's to work now; I'll be darned. Clients. The clients love EFC employees. At the expense of all things EFC, they sure are some happy clients, well, most of the time. They get what they want. This company babies their clients as much as they can. Keep in mind, all babies get upset and throw fits sometimes. Equipment. If you need a usb extension cord, an additional monitor, notepads, pens... just ask and you shall receive. Again, coffee is free and unlimited. That's nice.

Cons

Micromanaging 101. The upper management has little trust in their teams. The CEO regularly confides in his few upper management employees regarding matters with the "minions". Start time 8 A.M.? Better not get there at 8:00:01. Ever. Schedules are strict. Down to the second. Do you like to stress even more when you're already commuting in one of the fastest growing cities in the country? EFC can help with that. You just have to call in if the 6 wrecks on I-24 and 5 wrecks on I-65 are going to make you 45 seconds late. Also, it doesn't go unnoticed. While the phone call will be seen, the incident will not be forgotten. Work/Life balance and unexpected life situations - uh oh! The CEO is incapable of empathy and expects your job to come first above all, unless, you know... cancer. Cancer might be the one thing they will work with you on without indirect repercussion. Every day you have employees that are paranoid that they may lose their job over the slightest thing. Business > quality and loyalty here. Do you wish to work somewhere you can move up in the company? This isn't the place for that. Upper management consists of employees mostly at 10+ years of employment. There is not room to "move up" in this company only switch teams if deemed a proper move for an employee. All upper management wear many hats (too many), and work many hours outside of the 40/week. What's happening? Information exchange is lacking. The more friends you make the better informed you'll be. Anytime an employee is hired or let go the news spreads by word of mouth or you'll know when it's announced that a password has been changed, lol. There aren't good practices set in place to keep employees informed. That brings me to organization. This company is so terribly unorganized. If you decide you want to work here I suggest you have remarkable documentation and organizational skills. Meetings are rarely conducted on time and certain upper management is guaranteed to push meetings. Deadlines. WHAT ARE THOSE?! Need a little more time? No worries, EFC rarely meets a true deadline. Everything here is two steps behind. All the while they expect you to be on top of everything. On top of what? I'm not sure - we'll email back and forth about it several times before we realize we've already discussed and resolved this. Health. Let's talk health. Do you like to stand up at your desk and work? Well, that's not allowed here. The CEO thinks that people standing in their cubicles is distracting. White noise. There are white noise machines (that sound like rushing water) on constantly. I'd say ~80% of employees have voiced their disapproval of the necessity and helpfulness of the white noise, but to no avail. Not enough natural light. This is a cubicle, white noise, and florescent light farm. Natural light? Not here. Dull dreary colors? Plenty of that. Employee policies. The policy handbook is made up of "someone did this thing once and we didn't like it so now there's a rule for it". Some things are quite ridiculous, but that's the name of the game at EFC. MICROMANAGING! If they'd spend as much time on planning and scheduling as they did knowing whether someone just took a sh*t they'd make great strides of improvement. Are you an adult? Well, they won't talk to you like you are. Some particular upper management will throw ALL respect out of the window and consider apologizing for it later... maybe. Do you like being defensive? Cool. Upper management has been known to yell, slam desks, cuss, and be demeaning towards the hard working minions. Because we all know that's the way to motivate, am I right? Also, there are brown recluse spiders in the back stairwell of the main office. They sometimes pop up other places as well. Careful near the dark corners including under your desk.
