Pros

The ability to intact with Sr management is extremely easy. Ideas for process improvement are continually encouraged and those that have merit are acted upon and the contributor is generously rewarded.

Cons

Like most companies today, employer loyalty did not exist. The idea of a job description being true to the job responsibilities can change at any time.

Pros

Focused on employees health and wellness. Most managers are flexible and understanding, It is great to work for a growing company in a time when others are shrinking. There are opportunities to move forward and expand your knowledge.

Cons

Slow at making decisions. Middle management are not empowered to make decisions without getting a committee of 20 to agree, and then your decision gets vetoed. Behind the times with technology.

Pros

ESL really cares about creating an outstanding employee experience and it shows. From simple perks like convenient snacks and mini-meals in the cafe to the huge annual celebration party to just the peace of mind that, as a well managed and financially strong credit union, there is no fear of surprise layoffs or corporate takeovers. ESL is also good at representing its core values like caring about people. I'm a transplant to Rochester, and when I tell people I work at ESL, people in the community are very complimentary and anyone who banks there loves it and loves me by association :).

Cons

There is a lot of bureaucracy at ESL. I came from a different industry, so maybe this is because ESL is "bank." But It can take time to get things done. But the leadership seems to be thoughtful and sincere enough about organizational improvement, that if something really needs to get done...EVENTUALLY...it will.
